If the Hawaiians can Christmas shop in 70 and 80 degree weather, so can I. Writing out your Christmas cards by the pool...I love it. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We traveled family. (That’s my side of the mad duo.) It was one dizzy Wednesday we planned to leave Dallas around noon- time, but on Tuesday calls from New York came in- forming us of repairs on the Brooklyn Bridge, Route 80, the Battery Tunnel and other roads leading into Fun City. Pleading sanity, we took off about 10 a.m. giving us clear sailing and some time to sightsee. It took us 2% another two hours to drive around four blocks to find a parking lot by the World Trade Center. After driving under and up the Twin Towers and around those blocks for two hours, I already had enough of New York and the traffic jams. But you had to be in the car to appreicate the acid indigestion...Louis wasn’t interested in sight-seeing or anything else for that matter, Adele wanted to get to Grandma’s house, only Vin and George were looking forward to stand on line and see New York. ME - I was ready to bite anyone in the neck. Between the traffic, the occupants of the car and the price to park Could you believe $3,77 for a half hour to park your car. It would take you a half hour just to cross the street in New York. Madness. If I though New York City was wild with traffic, Thanksgiving Day was a joke. What usually takes a quarter of hour from my parents home to my brother Jim's in Lynbrook, took us 2%; hours. Bumper-to-bumper all the way but it was worth it. After everyone ate the 94 course dinner, the talent events began. First the nieces gave professional ballet and gymastic performances. Then my husband Vin and brothers Jim and Tony did their bit with ballet and gymastics. Everyone in the Back Mountain knows Uncle Tony - could you imagine a ‘“‘tu’tu’’ on him. We laughed so much we were getting sick. “Such fun and great memories and the best part--as we grow older we get crazier. On Friday we all went over to Vin’s mom’s house for British club to meet The monthly meeting of made, for sale at this British Women will be time. held at 7:30 p.m. on Final plans will be Wednescay, Dec. 5, at the made for the children’s home of Norah Hughes, 46 party to be held on Dec. 9 Tripp Street, Forty Fort. and also for the club’s Co-Hostesses will be Christmas party which Janet Kolesar and Mary will be at the Golden Milligan. All who attend Palace, Plains, on Dec. are asked to bring 15. something they have another family get together. They're another crazy bunch full of life and spirit. Thank goodness we live out here in Pennsylvania, otherwise I'd kill myself with food and laughter. I know there are many people in Dallas who were very thankful this past season...Mary Beth Schall and her two young daughters escaped with their lives from a bad accident involving their car and another on Wyoming Ave. last week. Happy to report that everyone is home recuperating and good wishes for a speedy recovery tp a beautiful family. Back to this column...Happy birthday to Susie Slocum who will celebrate a birthday, Nov. 28. Wedding anniversary wishes to Gene and Eleanor Menges, their 32, Nov. 29, John and Ann Chesnovitch, Nov. 28, Walter and Mary Weir, Nov. 28, Joe and Hetty McGraw their 23rd anniversary and Skip and Pat Bonham. Congratulations. Aunt Catherine and Uncle Tony, Bayonne, New Jersey enjoyed their turkey with the Annettas. Hurray for Aunt Catherine! ! The best to Gate of Heaven cheerleaders for placing first place in Bishop O’Reilly’s Annual Cheerleading Competition. Eighteen teams competed in the three day contest. Gate of Heaven girls received 143 points out of 160. Our congratulations to a sparkling, enthusiastic and well-mannered squad. Remember last week I said I'd fill you in on the trip to the Scotch and Sirloin Restaurant...well here goes. Last Saturday evening a group of us zanies from the Back Mt. traveled to the Abingtons for a business meeting and right then and there I should have known something was in the air. Vin made it from Oak Hill to Abington High School in a half hour. No wrong turn, no wrong hill. No nothing until we departed for the Scotch and Sirloin Restaurant, which is 10 minutes from the Abingtons. Two car-loads, containing Frank and Arlene Terascavage and Jack and Marlene Cacozza, Roy and Carol Smith, ann Pickering, Emily and yours truly and what’s his name. What's his name said, “Follow me, I know exactly where it is.”” He knew exactly where it was, but he could not get there. First we drove to the Moosic exit of Route 81. (Don’t ask how from Route 6 we landed on 81 and please don’t ask why we landed in Moosic twice.) One time we drove down a dead-end street with the Terascavage’s car right behind us and there was no room to make a U-turn or back out. And Vin kept saying he was giving us the 20-cent tour of Wilkes-Barre and points north. LIZ WILLIAMS SHOP 155 N.
