Orfaly, whose association has gathered a slate of anti-purchase Republican: candidates to run in the May 15 primary, said that while the pro- purchase forces have a 4-3 majority on council they do not have the wide popular support necessary to complete the project. Speaking of DeRemer, he affirmed, ‘He was elected to council by people who did not really know him. Our survey of last May revealed that the majority of people would not vote for him now.” In that mail survey every member of council received an overall negative rating. The primary topic of discussion centered around budget discussions for next year. Raymond Bowersox, the business manager for School District, presented the proposed budget with CAC members. Dr. David Preston, school superin- tendent, was also in at- tendance. Bowersox presented the committee with copies of the budget and proceeded to explain each item on a line by line basis. During the presentation Dr. Preston emphasized that at least 85 percent of the budget consist of fixed prices, which cannot be changed. An exact figure was not placed upon the budget total, but comments were made in defense of actual increases.
