Once again Harveys Lake headed the list with nice catches of perch, which were caught on the golden grub, some nice trout, caught with live minnows and red worms, and last but by no means the least, some very nice catches of smelt, taken with (mostly) pieces of red worms. (A tip to persons going for smelt - just watch for the largest gathering of lights and persons for the best spot of the evening.) Frances Slocum Dam again gave nice catches of shite crappie, on small tear drop lures, used on jigging rods. We also saw some nice bass here, both large and small mouth bass, taken with both hardware lures and natural baits sind nice catches of perch here, again caught mostly on the en grub while jigging. A few catfish were also caught on the grub at Slocum. ; Lake Irene and Sylvan Lake produced some nice trout, on minnows, and we saw some nice big perch caught at Sylvan Lake on the grubs. A note of interest: after examining a very large citation- sized pickeral caught at Sylvan Lake on a five inch golden shiner, we found that it contained a freshly eaten nine inch rainbow trout. \ ; Lily Lake produced some nice catches of blue gill and crappie bass, mostly on the small tear drop jigging lure. We know that many of the larger fish are just waiting in the smaller lakes. However these do not show the better returns, simply because, the larger, more popular lakes are a little easier to get to. If some of the terminololgy used in our releases is new or confusing to you, we would like you to attend a free ice fishing clinic, where everything will be explained in detail, to be conducted at Frances Slocum Dam.
