Paul Martin Frantz of 175 Staub ~~ Road, Trucksville, was presented the Eagle Scout Award during a recent Court of of Troop 155, Trucksville, held in the educational building of the Trucksville Methodist Church. Frantz is the son of Mrs. Marion Frantz and the late Marlan F. Frantz and is a senior at Dallas High School. He is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre. At the present time, scoutmaster of Troop 155, having previously served as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and patrol leader. He is currently the president of Explorer Post 123, Forty Fort, and is amember of the’ planning committee for the annual Polar Bear Weekend to be held at Camp Acahela in January, 1979. Frantz Eagle project consisted of clearing the area adjacent to the Denison House in Forty Fort. The restoration of this home, while orginally belonged to Colonel Nathan Denison, has been a project of the Wyoming Valley Historical Society. Following the opening ceremony by members of Troop 155, Richard Mon- tgomery scoutmaster of Troop 155, welcomed those present and the invocation was given by Rev. Clarence Schaffer, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre. Miss Betty Jane Williams gave the charge of scouting and Rev. Schaffer presented the charge of the church. The principal speaker of the evening was James Keiper, adviser of Ex- plorer Post 123. Bessie Ide goes Mrs. Bessie Ide, Loyalville, has just returned from a 10,000 mile trip via Amtrac. Her destination was San Jose, Calif., where she spent the Thanksgiving holidays with her daughter Jeanette D’Agostino and family. The outgoing route was Harrisburg, Kansas . City and Los Angeles to San Jose. In San Jose Mrs. Ide visited the I.B.M. plant, where D’Agostino is em- ployed and toured Spanish Missions, the Paul Masson Champagne Cellars, Montalvo Cultural Center, Egyptian Museum, Win- chester Mystery House, Red wood Park, Roaring Camp and Big Trees. San Franciscan tours included Muir Woods, Golden Gate, Chinatown, Japanese Yea Garden and the new Hyatt Regency Hotel. During a brief stay in Los Angeles tours in- cluded Hollywood Bowl, Homes of the Stars, Chinese Theatre, Farmers Market and shopping tour by Mini bus. : The return trip to Penn- sylvania was made by way of New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington and Philadelphia, where she arrived Dec. 12. Mrs. Ide assures us that railroads are still very much alive and a com- fortable way to travel if you have the time. PAGE ELEVEN Clark Stephen Van Orden has been appointed a full time policeman by the Dallas Township board of supervisors. He was sworn in by District Magistrate Earl S. Gregory on Dec. 7 and will begin his full time position on Jan. 1, 19179. He is now working in a part time capacity to help familiarize him with the job. Beginning Jan. 15, 1979 he will enter the Northeast Training Academy for a 12 week course covering all facets of police work. Upon completion of the course he will assume his duties as a Dallas Township patrolman. Van Orden is a resident of RD 3, Dallas. He is married and has two children. He is a gradujate of Dallas Senior High School and attended Luzerne Community “College for one year. He had been employed by Native Textiles for ten years. Z The new patrolman replaces James Kelly who retired from the force in October to accept a position with private in- dustry. lh This brings the Dallas Township Police Force to - five, including Chief Carl Miers and four men. Oscar - Weissman, chairman of the board of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc. (PEI) and Penn- sylvania Gas and Water Comapny (PG&W), has announced the recent appointment of a Dallas man as vice president for the two companies. John F. Kell, Jr., was named vice president and controller. ‘Kell, the newly named vice president and con- troller, joins PEI and PG&W after long service with the Artesian Water Company, Delaware, and Price-Waterhouse, Phil- adelphia. At Artesian he served as vice president, director and general manager. His areas of responsibility included accounting, finance, and general management.
