Rum-runners move into first place The Wednesday night Dallas Legion Dart League saw a change in first place for the first time in six weeks. : The Rum-runners of Dave Eddy moved into first place by sweeping three games from the last place Bergevins Jokers. The Joker's losses, coupled with a three game loss by previous first place Groboski’s Boot-Leggers to Redmond’s Generics, allowed the Rum-runners to slip into first place. The standings now show Rum-runners, 11-7; Generics 10-8; . Boot- Leggers 10-8 and Jokers 5- 13. A definite key to the Rum-runners sweep was the sharp shooting of Larry Wesley with high game for the second consecutive week (43) and high series, 115. High shooters were Larry Wesley, 32-43-40; Dave Eddy, 41-31; J. Bergevin, 36-37; Geo. Brutko, 30-37; Harry Wesley, 32-32; Ward Wesley, 31-32; Zeb Red- mond-39; Jim West-25; Tom Kupstas-33; W. Tigers came up with some explosive plays to top Terps for ACC crown, 28-24. Clemson’s swiftness was too much for Terps’ secondary. --Dallas Coach Jack Jones and Meyers boss Mick Gorham took in the ACC title game along with Wayne Dwyer, Bob Durand, Jim Cross and Jiggs McGuire. They paid visit to Terps’ coaching offices before the game and Jones informed us he’s still undecided about coaching again next season. We kinda feel he’ll be back. --Clemson QB Steve Fuller is an exceptional leader and was the catalyst for the Tigers. He’ll put pressure on any type of defense. --We sat next to Charlie Winner, former Jets’ coach, and now one of the scouts for the NFL Bengals. He was checking out three Terps and several Tigers. Terps’ Steve Atkins exploded for 98-yard scoring jaunt had Winner excited. Winner said, “‘He’s a super back. I like the way he picks his holes, then accelerates right through tacklers.” He agreed with our evaluation that Atkins’ style is com- parable to Franko Harris of Steelers. Atkins wound up with 198 yards on 28 trips. --Meyers’ Mickey Dudish paved the way for Atkins’ record 98-yard scoring dash with crunching block of linebacker. --It was mentioned by some scribes locally GAR wasn’t the best team in the WVC, but based on Saturday’s win over Dunmore that will lay to rest anymore rash statements. Coach John Rowlands’ Grenadiers have that poise which all championship teams possess. They're a remarkable group and we hope they’ll put away Poitsville this week. --Several sources informed me Clemson blew some big money by prematurely accepting Gator Bowl bid on Friday night. Orange Bowl people were going to take the winner of the Terp-Tiger contest if Penn State decided to turn down bid, Nittany Lions held the key to 90 percent of bowl match-ups. ‘One prediction we'll mike right now is Oklahoma over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. We haven’t encountered a coach yet that = didn’t feel Coach Mac wasn’t top-shelf. bb --Couldn’t believe Coughlin’s stellar running back Dave Shimshock wasn’t named to the coach’s All-Star team.
