You ask how am I holding out with out-of-town com- i Dallas News Mrs. Francis Barry, Woodlawn Drive, Dallas, has returned home from Mercy Hospital where she I've had company every single day except this weekend that just passed. Does my hairdresser know for sure? Maybe, but my grocer is positive! First, Uncle Rocco and his family from Brooklyn. Then Vin’s friend Dave Donnelly from Australia, my brother Jim Amalfitano and his family which brought us up to late Since we were going to have only two days to replenish the refrigerator and put ourselves together before Vin’s family comes, we thought we would get away by our- selves. Nothing hilarious, just three-four hours dining in some quiet restaurant without the children, the phone, the doorbell. There we were late Saturday afternoon following three ballgames (which started at 8:30 in the morning) getting ready for our big date. Checking over the special outfit, shampoo and condition the hair, nail polish, eye make-up you know, the works. (I even had shoes on!) We chose a nice restaurant in town and about 8:30 we arrived to begin our night out together - alone. As the maitre de was seating us, I asked if we could have a table in a corner, something romantic. No problem-nice table, pleasant waiter, excellent food, great atmosphere, until the surrounding tables opened their mouths. First, at a table for two, one 60-year man who must have been drinking all those years, kept time and every five, ten minutes he would say out loud ‘It’s 9 o’clock and I love you.” He was saying to his date, wife, mistress whatever, all night. Second, even closer was a table of ‘six, mother, father, daughter about 22, her date, son about 17 and another daughter 10-12 years old. They were having a family feud as though they were home. Nothing quiet or even low. Vin and I looked at each other and thanked God for our family life, as crazy as it is sometimes. From what I could gather the only people at that table that liked anybody were the waiter, cocktail waitress and the bus girl. At this point in our romantic evening I felt like smashing a bottle of Asti Spumonti over the parents’ head and Vin, knowing what I was thinking, tried to have our table changed, but unfortunately there were none available. So much for our quiet evening! A take-out pastrami sandwich eaten in a parking lot would have been better. man weds Chester F. Wolfe, Elmer N.
