An interdisciplinary major for students who want a basic understanding of the background and contemporary aspect of China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. ECONOMICS For those who want to understand operation of the economic system, uses of economic analysis. Graduates find careers in business operations, labor unions, and agencies of government at all levels. ENGLISH Options in Language and Literature and in Writing. Requirements for teacher certification can be met by English majors completing specified Education program. FOREIGN SERVICE & INTERNATIONAL POLITICS Political science, foreign policy, international politics, international organization or law, and comparative politics are necessary areas of interest for this major. Potential government or teaching career. FRENCH Majors may elect options in Language and Culture or French Literature. Students planning to teach in Pennsylvania public schools must also schedule the necessary education courses leading to certification. GENERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES Basic requirements in the arts, humanities, science and mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences, plus optional emphasis in any of those major areas of study. GEOGRAPHY Basic courses in human, regional, and physical geography, plus math and computer science, with electives in anthropology, economics, history, others as indicated by the student’s interests and career goals. GERMAN Majors in German may elect a Literature Option, a Teaching Option, or a German Studies Option, The Teaching Option, combined with appropriate education courses, may lead to certification for secondary school. HISTORY Students electing the History major must meet minimum requirements in each of four areas: Ancient or medieval history, modern European history, American history, and Latin American, Asian, or African history. ITALIAN. Students in Italian language and literature, with additional credits required in either Italian or a related foreign language (French, Latin, Portuguese, Spanish) or in courses selected from other areas. LATIN-AMERICAN STUDIES This interdisciplinary major is designed for students who want a basic understanding of Latin America. The program permits election of a second major in a particular subject field. LINGUISTICS Students electing this interdisciplinary major take courses in many departments: Classical Languages, English, French, German, Philosophy, Psychology, Slavic Languages, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Speech Communications. Various options offered. MEDIEVAL STUDIES Medieval cultures in its diverse aspects, with individual programs designed to emphasize particular areas of interest or to prepare students for graduate study or professional work. PHILOSOPHY Directed to students with varying career goals, this major permits selection of courses appropriate to student plans, makes it possible to pursue specific areas in depth. POLITICAL SCIENCE Basic courses in political science with electives in anthropology, economics, geography, history, sociology, and other related fields. Can be combined with an Area Studies Option. PRE-LAW The basic requirements leading to admission to Law school. PSYCHOLOGY This major may lead to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, depending upon the depth of the student's interest in science. PUBLIC SERVICE Basic study in political science, economics, history, sociology, with additional requirements related to career goals in political science, public administration, economics, labor studies, other related fields. RELIGIOUS STUDIES Offers specialized knowledge of religion in the context of liberal studies. Career opportunities and need to relate to another discipline require competence in a second field of study. RUSSIAN Basic language courses, with electives in other languages, literature, comparative literature, the humanities and social sciences. Can be combined with Russian Area Option.
