Let's take a look at the Colleges that operate at the University and the major areas of study offered by each of them: College of Agriculture AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT Graduates of this major start in positions which include salesman, buyer, accountant, assistant branch manager, or administrative trainee with food marketing firms, farm service and supply organizations and governmental agencies. AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS & RURAL SOC- IOLOGY Graduates work with agribusiness firms, finance institutions, public and private agencies concerned with development and management of land, water, and human resources. Good for farm owners, managers, too. AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION Prepares students to work in agricultural education, including public schools, businesses, trade associations, government agencies. Experience is important here. AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING Combines courses in ag and engineering to prepare students for design, development, teaching, research, sales and service on power and machinery, crop processing, soil and water conservation, farm structures. AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION Preparation for careers in applying energy and equipment to agriculture. Courses relate largely to tractors, farm machinery, farm buildings, electricity in ag production, water, waste disposal, refrigeration, food processing. AGRONOMY Agronomists are concerned with the production of crops for food, feed, and fiber; turfgrass management, and the care and wise use of resources. Majors may specialize in crops, soils, or turfgrass management. ANIMAL INDUSTRY The production and management of dairy, livestock, or poultry enterprises is the focus of this major. Students may specialize in a single field if they wish. Graduate programs are also available. ANIMAL SCIENCE This major provides a single integrated program for preprofessional students preparing for admission to a veterinary college. Completion of nine teins picpuies stuaents for admission to a veterinary school. ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE MANAGEMEN® This major is concerned with the quality and usefulness of man’s outdoor environment, with the management of renewable natural resources. Graduates seek employment with governmental agencies, utilities, industries. FOOD SCIENCE Application of science and technology to food product manufacture, storage, and distribution. New product development, quality standards, food plant management. Logical employers include food processors, other industries. GENERAL AGRICULTURE This major provides a program of general studies in agriculture. Since it has many electives, it also is possible for a student to choose and combine courses to fit his specific needs and interests. HORTICULTURE Floriculture, vegetable culture, ornamental horticulture or nursery management, and fruit culture are all commercial areas in which students may specialize. Research careers possible, too. PLANT SCIENCE Food for the world population is supplied by plants, directly or indirectly. This major is concerned with the life of plants. Teaching or research careers are possible; graduate work expands possibilities. SCHOOL OF FOREST RESOURCES Specialized training leading to management of renewable natural resources. Forest management for production of timber and fiber, forage, wildlife, water, and outdoor recreation. FOREST PRODUCTS Wide scope of the forest industry -- from harvesting to ultimate uses of wood, fiber, and chemical products -- poses broad range of employment opportunities for graduates in this major. FOREST SCIENCE Prepares students for forest land management positions in public and private forestry. Graduate study can lead to research and teaching positions. College of Arts and Architecture ARCHITECTURE This four-year major is the first phase of a six-year program in Architecture. The baccalaureate degree provides a general professional breadth leading toward a career in architectural and environmental design. ART This major leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, through options in painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramic arts, and graphic design. Aims to prepare graduates for professional careers in art.
