Little League baseball organization of the Franklin-Northmoreland Townships area, which has sponsored the Little League baseball program in those townships over the past decade, will have something new in operation for the coming ypaseball season. Hislop of Orange an- nounced early in the week that the league will sponsor a softball league for boys of both townships between the ages of 13 and 15 in addition to sponsoring teams in the major, minor and farm divisions of Little League, as in the past. Registration dates for the coming season for boys planning to play in Little League and the new soft- ball division in the Cen- termoreland-Orange areas were set at a recent Back Mountain residents have list at College Misericordia for the fall semester. To achieve the academic honor, a student must maintain a semester grade-point average of at least 3.55, based upon a 4.00 grading system. For the fall, 146 Misericordians earned the honor. One Back Mountain resident, Junior Gale Young, acheived a perfect 4.00 average for the semester. The Dallas Mountaineers were trounced 38-12 by the league-leading Crestwood Comets last Thursday night at the Mountaintop school. Coach Larry Schuler was forced to put his squad on the mats without two of his starters--126-1b. sophomore Andy Pinter, who failed to make weight; and 185-1b. junior Ken Kuderka, out with an injury. 98-lb. Mark Carter registered the sole pin for the Mountaineers on a time of 1:42; 132-1b. Jon Davis took a 2-0 decision from Neil Gilroy; and 145-1b. Sean Kavanaugh decisioned Brad Fogelman 11-7. The remaining bouts went to the Comets, three of them won by pins. Carter gave the Moun- taineers hope when he clamped G. Wozniak in 1:42 after taking a 5-2 lead in the bout. The hope was dimmed quickly when Crestwood’s 105-1b. Darrell Schwartz turned over Mike Dillon in 5:16 and 112-lb. Dom Serratore edged Scott Davis in a close 4-2 bout. After ending the first period in a 0-0 tie, the two wrestlers moved to the second with Davis scoring the first point on an escape. Serratore quickly took him down for two points but Davis managed a second escape. With the bout at 2- 2, Serratore was given a penalty point by the of- ficial. In the final period he escaped for one closing the bout at 4-2. Sophomore Steve Bit- tenbender tried but was no match for the Comets Gary Siegel who scored a takedown, three near falls and a reversal before turning over the Dallas matman in 3:09. 126-1b. Matt Giampietro scored the fastest pin of the meet when he upended Mountaineer jayvee Chip Borton in 50 seconds. In the 132-1b. bout, Dallas’ Jon Davis scored a near fall in the second period for two points which was enough to give him the win over Gilroy. 138-lb. Mark Giampietro was losing to sophomore Ron Kelley 2-0 until the Comet grappler managed a reversal in the final period for two then collected two penalty points on a stalling call against Kelley. 145-1b. Kavanaugh wrestled cool and worked into position for a reversal then a two- point near fall over his opponent to lead 7-4 at the ‘close of the second period. In the final period, Kavanaugh managed a reversal and a nearfall before Fogelman gained one on a penalty point and two on a reversal, closing out the bout 11-7 for the Dallas grappler. The Comets 155-1b. Robin Pettit remained un- defeated by scoring a major 12-0 decision over sophomore Scott Asby. The senior tried to clamp Ashby on three occasions but the young wrestler managed to escape flattening each time. 165-1b. Rick Gaetano scored an easy takedown in Brace, escaped for a point in the second period, then scored a takedown and nearfall in the third period for eight points while the best Brace could garner was a one point escape in the third period. 185-1b. Chuck Vachris Dave Pettit for two in the first period of the bout. Neither man was able to score in the second but Vachris managed a two- point reversal in the final PAGE ELEVEN ~~ period to take a 4-0 decision. The Mounts’ gave undefeated Mark Spencer no chance to clamp him as the Comet grappler scored a takedown in the first: period and a reversal in the second. He picked up a point on a penalty call by referee Ted Bienkowski in the third period against the Dallas sophomore. L-L band sponsors meet The Lake-Lehman Band sponsors will hold their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening Feb. 21, at 7:30 in the high school. The regular monthly meeting of the Harveys Lake Rod & Gun Club, Inc. was held recently at the clubhouse with ap- proximately 45 members present. The club is following its ‘“‘conservation project” of feeding the game on the property such as rabbits, squirrels, and birds. This is an annual project with Mal Nelson in charge. It was noted that the Luzerne County Fereation of Sportsmen will again sponsor the Steve Em- manual Awards Dinner- dance on March 11, at Konefals, Edwardsville. Priscilla Circle meets Monday The Priscilla Circle of the Shavertown United Methodist Church will meet Monday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. at the home of Cleda Shelby with Doris Parsons as co-hostess. Devotions will be given by Pat Kirk. Program will be presented by Jay Borton of the JB Gallery. Publicity chairman is Nancy Odell. The next turkey shoot will be held the third Sunday in February, weather permitting. If you have any doubt whether or not the shoot will be held you may contact Joe Yanchunas or Joe Zier, who should be able to let you know. New officers and directors were introduced by the president. President for 1978 will be Ed Kordek and new directors will be Leonard Harvey and George Brenzovich. Our club will again sponsor some students at the Conservation school at Penn State. Schools will be contacted for assistance in choosing interested students. Age limitations are 15-17 years old (girl or boy). In 1977 there were two students sponsored, | club and they brought many interesting and worthwhile comments back to the club about the school. The next regular meeting will be held the last Monday of February at 8 p.m. at the clubhouse. All members are urged to attend.
