ype CLIPBOARD NOTES: Bob Saul and his son, Chris, recently visted with former Kingston standout, Ed Rutkowski, at his home in Buffalo. Ed went on to play at Notre Dame and with the Buffalo Bills. He’s handling the color for the Bills’ radio. Chris got to meet a number of the Bills and was presented with an autographed football. Back Mountain should ave a host of good ¢ dpplers this season and we're looking for big things out of Dallas’ Andy Pinter. While Dan Sutliff didn’t have a banner campaign last year, we’re looking for him to place in the state meet this season. Fans up at Crestwood are anticipating another winning year. It appears the Comets have got things working very well with the grade school youngsters and will make the program even stronger in the future. The parents have rallied support, too. Number of Lake-Lehman fans and former gridders of Coach George Curry were in Berwick Saturday when Curry’s Bulldogs captured the Eastern title. We can’t express how happy we are for George. Just a couple of years back we played golf at Berwick and several guys were telling us they didn’t think coach. We just told them to have patience because high school football runs in cycles and when George had the right combination of talent he’d make Ber- wick a winner. One of the charac- teristics which impressed us about coach Curry is his ability to motivate the most mediocre of teams to play above their heads all the time. While the fury continues over the Orange Bowl not offering Penn State a bid, we haven’t seen too much on Brigham Young which didn’t havea bid extended, despite winding up with a 9-2 record. Nittany Lion fans can thank the behind the scenes maneuvering of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles. According to some close source he’s the gent who pulled all the strings and persuaded the with the Razor- backs. : Several PSU fans asked us for our reaction to the Nittany Lions defeating Pitt. We felt Pitt had an edge in speed especially at the skilled positions but our chief concern was the Panther staff being out- oached, which was :xactly what happened. Results from annual Penn State mat tourney demonstrated once again a two-way battle between Lehigh and Penn State for our Eastern Mat Poll, Coach Bill Kill’s Nittany Lions copped the plaque last year. Clarion State, with a host of youngsters, will make a strong bid for the No. 1 slot, too. First Poll of the season will be held on Dec. 19, 1977. Men's WATERPROOF BOOTS Wolverines Sorels Hermans all at Ek]: ELE SHOE STORE BOF ETS OPEN DAILY ITIL 9PM SATURDAYS ‘TIL 6 P.M. Several friends jour- neyed on down to Giant Stadium on Sunday to see Giants to an impressive triumph over the Cards. Many of the tickets were taken care of by Joe. He was elated with the blocking he got up front. According to Len Selner. Joe brought Larry Csonka over to .meet some of his pals from Wilkes-Barre. He was especially happy since each victory he leads the Giants to means a nice stack of coins as his con- tact calls for a lot of ‘‘in- centive clauses.” Joe has gained a heap of respect from everyone for his guts to hang in the pocket and take the poundings. Meanwhile, Lake- Lehman’s cagers came close in the northwest roundball tourney over the weekend. Playing Nor- thwest on the Rangers home court is equal to playing UCLA on its homecourt. They just don’t lose at home. People have been talking about Mickey Dudish and Jim Cefalo playing in Big Time programs, but we haven’t seen anything on GAR’s George .Suda who just happens to be starting at strong side linebacker for Oklahoma State. That is BIG TIME FOOTBALL, too, my friends. Several of the college coaches names we men- tioned here early in the season have already resigned or got the ax. If you want pressure, be a head college grid coach. A college football season isn’t complete anymore with out some of the ‘‘no- necks” climbing up and down Coach Woody Hayes’ back. We've always been a fan of Coach Hayes, but his latest act in the Michigan game was in poor taste. He's a fierce competitor and hates to lose. If it were possible I'd enjoy nothing more than having my son play for him. He’s not only a super coach but he instills character in his players, too. We’ve been collecting most of the ALL+American teams which have been released thus far and some of the names we've seen were ludicrous. There’s one particular team which we saw perform in person five times and didn’t even know this guy was on the field let alone being named to third team A+A. While we don’t appreciate UPI, we kinda like their selections over the others. One of the most pathetic is Football News. Tennessee Coach Bobby Roper looks like a true prophet. He recently told us that the 78-yard TD run by Tony Dorsett, which was a Cowboy record, wouldn’t stand long as Dorsett would smash it too. It didn’t take the former Pitt long to wipe that one off the books and a couple other, too. Don’t write the Raiders either be them or the Steelers in the Super Bowl.
