This weekend marked
the end of Fire Prevention
Week and I experienced a
lesson worth passing on.
Sunday afternoon, one of
our local fire trucks was
filling up at a neighborhood
penny-pinching pump. The
attendant, who was filling
the truck, had one hand on
the gasoline hose and the
other holding his lighted
the fire truck driver.
The lesson ‘even those
most knowledgeable about
' fire sometimes forget their
careless’.
It is my sincere hope that
both the station attendant
and the fire truck driver
will be reminded of the
necessary precautions of
not smoking around
gasoline pumps-especially
when I’m in the car behind
waiting to gas up.
Who ever said, “I’m all
thumbs’ after dropping a
thing or two didn’t know
what they were talking
about. Did you ever put a
thumb out of commission
and try to count money, get
dressed or the best, sew a
thing or two.
Last week I put my left
thumb in retirement and
had to make do with nine
other clumsy fingers. It
~ wasn’t too bad, things went
slow, but they were done.
Then along came Friday
when 400 patches had to be
sewed on George's new
Cub Scout uniform. Did
such a great job, I sewed
the patch to the uniform
and to the band aid that
was protecting my thumb.
