KIWANIS CARD PARTY--The Dallas Women of Kiwanis will hold their annual card party Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 8 p-m. at the Eastern Star Building, Dallas. This will be a joint meeting with the men of Kiwanis as it will be the installation of officers for the Dallas Kiwanis Club. Walter Kozemchak will be installed as president. Kiwanis Division 15 Lieutenant Governor Milton J., Owens of Plymouth Kiwanis Club Reese will be the installing officer. Hostesses for the evening will be Doris Maturi and Mabel Harter. Nancy Kozemchak will preside at the women’s meeting, following the installation. At the.annual conference of the Pennsylvania Planning Association recently’ held in Valley Forge, Howard & J. Grossman of Dallas, exegutive director of the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania (EDCNP), was elected for a third term as president of the statewide planning organization. Some of the activities of the Association during the recent fiscal year included a series of five workshops held throughout the State. Grossman noted that one such workshop will be held in Northeastern 1978 .at .a place yet to be determined. LaLeche plans Oct. The Back Mountain Group of La Leche League will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20, 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Philip Johnson, Manor Drive, Trucksville. A College Misericordia philosophy professor has published a philosphy textbook that will be on the book market this month. Michael A. Foley, assistant professor of philosophy, has written “Philosophy: A Common Sense Approach.” in collaboration with William Mohan of Marywood College. The textbook has been accepted by University = Press of America in, Washington, D.C., and will be published later this month. Proof copies are already available. Dr. Foley describes the book as having been written for freshman and sophamores. “The book is unique,” he says, ‘in that it maintains philosophical integrity while introducing problems in such a way that prior importance can be seen readily and discussed. It is a book written for the many, not the elite few.” Dr. Foley and Mohan collaborated on the book from 1975 through 1976, with Foley writing four of the six chapters. Dr. Foley is’ a native of Decatur, Illinois, and began his affiliation with College Misericordia last year. He received his B.A. in Philosophy from Eastern Illinois University and his M.A. and Ph. D. from Southern Illinois University. The Luzerne County Medical Society Auxiliary has scheduled an art show and sale for Oct. 15 and 16 as their third social event to “Rescue children in Peril.” The show will be at the Main Street Gallerys in the Midtown Village on South Main Street, Wilkes- Barre. At the affair will be the popular modern artist, Mary Vickers who was asked to take part in the Child Abuse Campaign because she is widely known for her gentle oil meet and talk with her Wyoming Valley admirers on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served show and sale. Many of Ms. Vicker’s works of art will be on display and will be sold as contributions to the Child abuse fund. A Vicker’s painting will be awarded on Sunday.
