by Charlot Denmon “I love to cook but prefer plain foods, simple and easy to prepare. My family likes Jello and I use it in many of my salads and desserts. Working and tak- ing care of a family and home takes a lot of my time, so the more simple the recipe the better I like it,” said Mrs. Gene Brobst of Trucksville. The former Bev Ander- son, daughter of Emma and the late Donald Ander- son of Trucksville, she is married to Eugene Brobst, Oak Hill native of Dallas, whom she met when he worked on her car at the garage where he was employed at that time. Bev graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1958, then attend Wilkes- Barre Business College where she studied short- hand and typing. When she completed her business course, she accepted a position with C.J. Chapin, insurance agent. Later she worked for Aetna Life Insurance where she was in 1961 when she married Gene. She continued to work until their oldest daughter, Tauna, now a freshman at Dallas Junior High School, was born. The Brobst’s also have two younger children, David, sixth grade student, and Tammy in fourth grade. Bev remained at home until the three children were in school, then she ac- cepted a position in the of- fice of Gospel Light Publi- cations. She is presently employed in the traffic by Bridgette Correale I wonder if the Romans had as much trouble building their Arch in Rome, as Vin and I are having in our home. Several years ago, in a decorator’s guide, I saw a picture of an arch covering a large window and hoped one day to have it done to our living room window. Well, that one day arrived several weeks ago and since then, I’m having doubts whether Vin and I will make our 16th wedding anniversary (May 28) together. After doing his fantastic job of a three column arch, it was my job to decide how, why, with what was Vin going to cover it with, A-paint, B-wallpaper, C- material, D- my body. Our first choice was a lovely bulky material that looked nice until it was completed. We then realized that two seams could not be hidden. Second choice was wallpaper which when it finally arrived was too damaged to handle. (At $50 aroll, I expected the paper to unroll and glue itself to the walls. At this stage of the game, four weeks had passed and our new arch was still uncovered, then one Saturday morning as I lay peacefully in slumberland, I felt this thumping on the Roya Fahmy, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Mahmoud Fahmy, Valley View Drive, Shrine Acres, Dallas, was selected as one Roya Fahmy Luzerne County to appear in the county pageant, at Hazleton High School, Sept. 17. Roya, a junior at Dallas Senior High School, was the only Back Mountain student selected from among more than 60 candidates at the Hazleton High School, Saturday, April 23. A former Cadette Girl Scout, she is a cheerleader, member of the high school drama club, gymnastics club, and this year was named to the National Honor Society. Roya has appeared in several of the school’s plays, the latest being ‘‘Taming of the Shrew” last Thursday and Friday. She also is a member of the high school chorus. She will attend Hazleton High School once a week during : the summer preparing for the county pageant in September. The theme of that event will be “The 50’s-Happy Days” fo oft ) > bed, my pillow and on my head. During the night Vin got a brainstorm and decided that the gorgeous custom made drapes that hung in our bedroom were just the thing to cover the living room arch. So now the beautiful material we purchased in Paris which were made into wall-to- wall drapes are covering our arch. Our problem now is what to do with our bedroom, Vin said if I say one more word he’s pit- ching a tent...for me! According to Bev, her culinary tasks are made easier by the fact that Tauna has become skilled in the preparation of food. “Recently”, she said, ‘‘the family doesn’t know which one of us prepared dinner. Tauna can cook as well as I can.” Both Bev and Gene are active in the Trucksville Volunteer Fire Company, and both are interested in CB’s. They have a base unit in their home which they use to monitor fires and other emergencies. Bev enjoys bowling and is a member of the Friday night Imperialette League. She used to do a lot of cera- mics but since going back to work does not have the time. She enjoys raising plants and flowers, indoors and outdoors. She and her daughter are presently experimenting in raising a variety of cacti and have several new ones started. Ivy is also prevalent throughout her home as well as numerous other types of plants. She raises beautiful iris and other flowers during the warm weather but cuts the blos- soms and brings them into the house where she can better enjoy their beauty. Bev does not like to sew but does do needlework. She, Tauna and Tammy are getting ready to make quilts for the girls room. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading a good book, especially if she is alone. Although Gene and the children enjoy partici- pating in sports, Bev en- joys them only as a spec- tator. She used to go to the games when Gene played basketball. The Brobst’s are a stay- at-home family, enjoying their large yard, their home and teaching their pet German shepherd, Brutus, new tricks which he learns quickly. Born and raised in Trucksville, Bev has lived there since her marriage as well, living on Holly Street prior to purchasing their new home on Harris Hill Road.
