Lehman tells
for log cabin
The Lehman Township
Bicentennial Council’s
Horizon ‘76 committee, co-
chaired by Joseph
Ellsworth and Kathryn
Gregory, have completed
the initial stage of the
outdoor environmental
classroom. The log cabin
has been designed and built
specifically for the use of
Lake-Lehman elementary
students, although the
public is welcome to enjoy
it.
Several activities and
special kits have already
been put together for use
by the district’s
elementary people.
Included are activities of
tree identification (the
woods adjoining the cabin
have several labeled
trees), tree ring analysis,
and identification of local
rock types. There are, on
call, in the Lehman-
Jackson elementary
building the following kits:
sediment kits, (to see the

sediments or particles that
make up the local rocks);
rock kits (containing
samples of many local rock
formations), and tree ring:
kits (for estimating ages of
trees by counting rings).
The activities and the
write-ups that go with them
are just a start; more will
be added as feedback from
the students and teachers
who use this classroom
come in. It is the council’s
hope that this outdoor lab
will be used and enjoyed by
all.
