The burning of the Yule log is a custom handed down by the English who settled in America. On Christmas hearth, is kindled with the remains of the log from the previous year, Many super- stitions surround the Yule log. It was thought by some to protect their home from evil spirits, others thought the ashes would help swol- len glands! At Williamsburg Lodge, in Williamsburg, Vir- ginia, the burning of the Yule log is still part of their Jradiional holiday celebra- ion. Following the Webelos’ flag ceremony at the December meeting of Sweet Valley Packl44, Den 1 and Den 2 put the finishing touches on the Christmas tree with the addition of their beautifully made tree ornaments. Awards were presented. Webelos, Scott Oakley, received the Athlete Ac- tivity’ Badge and James Miles received the Athlete and Artist Activity Badges. Wolf cubs, Paul Warner and Douglas Thomas each received gold arrow points. Den 1 performed “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’’ and Den 2 * po pantomined the - Chip- munks version of Silent Night. Highlights of the evening included a visit from Santa Claus. He gave each Cubscout a Later every Cub and visiting youngster was blindfolded and took a swing at a Blue and Gold, coin and candy filled Pinanta.
