Parent Advisory Council meeting, The Parent ESEA Title I has been busy with informational and organizational meetings in response to the need to assist the Dallas School District in developing supplementary compensatory educational services in the Dallas School program. Parents are involved in considering the needs of children at the primary grade levels, and are helping to develop a program to meet a limited number of high priority needs through special learning activities in learning resource centers and reading classes. On August 28th an organizational meeling was called by Dr. Richard Shipe. Assistant Supervisor of the Dallas School District. to review the ESEA Title 1 proposal for 1975-76. Procedures were also developed for selecting a Title I Parent Advisory Council. At a subsequent meeting on September 25th the Parent Advisory Council was re-organized with Mrs. Howard Perrego and Mrs. Ronald Mosca serving as co-chairpersons. Mrs. Leonard Krispen was elected as recording secretary. At this meeting Dr. Shipe reviewed the Dallas School District Title 1 program and the role of the Parent Advisory Council. The goals of this committee are to review existing programs. meet as a group to recommend changes that may improve the Title I program. and to act to keep other parents 4 THE answers parents’ 2.S EA. Title THT informed of Title I programs. Education conducted a Parent Awareness Conference on October 23rd for ESEA Title I Parent Advisory Councils. Mrs. Ronald Mosca. Mrs. Howard Perrego. Mrs. George Hackling and Mrs. Henry Ward attended as representatives of the Dallas School District. Mr: Jack Hyams. Senior Program Officer of the Bureau of Special and Compensatory Programs gave an address dealing with a Title I Overview. The learning sessions attended by the sroup were: Monitoring and Evaluation of itle I. Informing Parents About Ttitle I. Dealing with Dollars. Group Dynamics. How to Conduet a Meeting. and Exemplory Program Early Skill Building. The November meeting of Parent Advisory Council was held in the Intermediate School Library on Wednesday. November 5th. The program featured a presentation and demonstrations of the learning resource program by Mrs. Grace Fries, Mrs. Kathy Flick. and Mrs. Jean Utter, the specially trained learning resource teachers. The January meeting will feature a program by the school district's reading specialists and will be of interest to all parents. The Parent Advisory Council and the schools strongly urge your attendance. participation. and support in helping our schools provide the best education for our children. The State Board of Education regulations regarding student respon- sibilities and rights led to a review of student rules and regulations by staff and administrators. Revised student policies related corrective discinlinary Cindy Garris continuous process. Principals and staff continue to seek improved ways to help students become responsible for their own behavior. Student government and ad- visory groups. student involvement in developing improved procedures is not limited to student governments or representative advisory groups.
