BY MICHAEL POLK It seemed the flag flying atop the mast at the Centermoreland honor roll on Flag Day, Saturday, waved just a bit heftier and the colors might have taken on a brighter ginge as the Orange- Centermoreland Phillies returned home Saturday following their Little League game against the Orange-Centermoreland Yankees on the Orange diamond. At least it seemed that way for the several score rooters of the Phillies and Margser Ken Lewis akd the members of ok Orange-Centermoreland Phillies, who came back home to the tune of blaring horns and cheers following their 15 to 12 upset win over the Yankees. It was only the Phillies second win in 20 games over two seasons but it signaled a possible turn around for the team, which is just about the smallest 1972 Chevrolet 34 Ton Pickup truck Radio, Heater, 4 speed transmission, V-8 8ft. The Phillies, which really were a ‘minor’ league squad last season when they were pushed into ‘major’ Little League play after Kunkle had dropped out of the Robert D. Morlacher Memorial League, are composed of ten and eleven year olds from the Centermoreland area. Fact is, there weren't enough boys of that age group out for the team from the area so league oficials let © the Phillies have a couple of players from .the Demunds Road section of Franklin Township to field a team. Then, too, the youngsters didn’t have a practice field until this year when Les Howell of Centermoreland donated use of a plot for the youngsters. So it was no ‘big deal’ when the Phillies went some 18 games in league play before winning their first game two weeks ago. But Saturday’s win over the Yankees - well that was something special and if the Phillies don’t win another one all season, they will consider the season a good one. After all, the Yankees had beaten the Phillies three times previously this season - the last time by a whopping 32 to 16 score. But Saturday it was dif- ferent. Feher, Kravitsky and Barry Baseski had six of the 10 Yankees hits between them. For the Phillies, Bryan Montross and Bobby Faux were the batting stars. Faux had three hits in four trips while Montross hit safely three times in five trips, one of them a triple. Mike Ondish and Art Faux hit doubles for the Phillies. Folks in Centermoreland are looking for bigger things from the Phillies for the rest of the season, to be sure, but it will be a long time before the Phillies’ fans forget the Flag Day, 1975 victory! ss Sale muses The Girl’s Softball League peanut sale will conclude on Friday June 20.
