Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Owens, Shavertown, presented the Dallas School Board with a petition signed by 53 residents of the Mt. Airy Road section, concerning the school bus stop at the intersection of Mt. Airy Road and Pioneer Avenue. ~ Mrs. Owens submitted a complaint about the hazards at the bus stop. She said 50 students, all kindergarten and elementary, are picked up at the stop, and are in danger because of the lack of visibility for drivers. Two stone walls nearbyfijould be a death trap. Mrs. Owens stated, if a car or bus slid on an icy road. She asked for suggestions from the board concerning protection for those children who had to wait for the bus. James Brokenshire, assistant superintendent, replied that members of the school staff, Kingston Township officials, and officials from the Pennsyl- vania Department of Transpor- tation (PennDOT) had met at the site and they all agreed that it was a very dangerous place for a bus stop. The PennDOT officials said that they would submit a report, but it was thought that one of the banks would have to be removed for the safety of the children. It was suggested that the children wait on the upper part of Mt. Airy Road until the bus arrives and then come down the hill and board the bus. It was also suggested that a guard be hired temporarily to wait with the children until they board the bus. Some of the children have to wait half an ‘hour and they sometimes run out and play in the road. Mr. Brokenshire and Dr. Linford Werkheiser replied that the matter would be turned over to the transportation committee and that some immediate ac- tion would be taken. !
