According to Daniel Chap- man, who keeps the books for the fair, it will be impossible to tell the financial success of the fair until all the bills are in and all the money still due the fair has been received. Then the sum should be adjusted for inflation before an accurate comparison could be made to previous years. Dr. Lester Jordan reported the fair drew a good crowd for all three days. ‘People seemed to like it,” he said. “‘I think they may have gone home a little earlier this year than other years, maybe because of the tight money situation.” He said the exhibitors liked the new tent space. Nobody had any of their exhibits damaged and nothing was reported stolen. Dr. Jordan said the commer- cial exhibitors were well satis- fied with the fair. One exhibit that drew quite a bit of attention was a new three-wheeled vehi- cle, the first one in the state, exhibited by Al Wendell, Har- veys Lake. It has a plastic body, Produce a small engine that gets 30 miles per gallon of gas, and can be driven on the highway. The vehicle is made by the Rupp Company of Germany, Dr. Jordan said he thought the home economics, exhibits were good but there should have been more entries. They have already figured a way to in- crease entries in this category for next year and they will also add a new wrinkle which should draw more spectators to the exhibits. Next year they plan to hold the judging for the home economics exhibits at 1 p.m. Saturday instead of “rig ‘I think a lot of these ¥¥diien who would like to exhibit things are working now and they can’t get off to bring their things over. By having the judging Saturday it should increase the number of exhibits Signifi- cantly,” he said. “Then we are going lo give every person a slip of paper with all the classes of exhibits listed on it when the people buy their tickets at the gate,” he continued. “The people can then go and look at the exhibits and write down which ones they think will get first prize. The one who picks the most winners will get a $25 U.S. Savings Bond,” Dr. Jordan explained. So there you are folks, next year’s Fall Fair will, be even bigger and better than this year’s. You can’t beat that with a stick.
