MARTHA SMITH Martha M. Smith, 55, of Box 126, RD 3, Wyoming, died suddenly at home, Dec. 14. Death was caused by an appar- ent heart attack. Born in Dallas Township, she was the former Martha Russ. She was a resident of the Carverton area for the past 15 years. She was employed by the Lake-Lehman school district, as a junior high school instructor, for the past 15 years. Hughes, 72, of Sutton Creek Road, Exeter Township, who resided for 15 years in Oak Hill, Dallas, before moving to her present address three years ago, died Dec: 12 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bicking, with whom she resided. A native of Nescopeck, she was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Her first husband, William Jones, died in 1968. Her second ' husband, William R. Hughes, died in 1971. Born at Ruggles Hollow, he was the son of the late John and Susan Nash Swan. For many years he was employed as an operator of heavy equipment for coal companies in the Wyoming Valley. His most recent employment was with the Hudson Coal Company. He was a member of the Idetown United Methodist Church. He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Dennis Bonning, Jackson; Mrs. Charles Fisk, Sweet Valley; sons, Kenneth, Middle- sex N.J.; Preston, Idetown; George, Dallas; Arnold, Grand Island N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
