Page 6 Area Guard Unit Names New Exec Major Robert D. Carroll, executive officer of the First Battalion, 109th Field Artillery. Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Wilkes-Barre, has been appointed as commanding offi- cer of the 1st Battalion effective Oct. 14, according to an an- nouncement made by Major Gen. Nichollas P. Katkalas. commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division. Pennsylvanis Army National Guard. Maj. Carroll is succeeding Lt. Col. Joseph J. Chmiola who is being promoted to colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. A formal change of command ceremony will take place on the lawn in front of the 109th Artill- ery - Armory. Market Street. Kingston. at 3:00 p.m.. Oct. 13. when Lt. Col. Chmiola will pre- sent the colors of th 109th Field Artillery to Maj. Carroll. Maj. Carroll has been an active member of the 109th Field Artillery since March 1948. when he originally enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Maj. Carroll is news director for WNEP-TV. The public is invited to wit- ness the ceremony. Brownie Troop 929 Tours Dallas Post Sixteen members of Brownie ‘Troop 929. Shavertown, toured the offices of the Dallas Post and Greenstreet News Com- pany headquarters Monday afternoon. They were accom- panied by Betty Hudak, leader; Jane McGough, Senior Girl Scout helper: and Grace Lipov- sky. Ellen Dobinick, head of the layout department, and Doris R. Mallin, Post editor, escorted the group through the news room, business offices, and pro- duction department. Brownies who went on the tour were Barbara Eyet, Jane Hudak, Carol Linker, Jill Lipovsky. Boy Scouts of America. tripled the number of boys who enrolled in scouting last year and more than doubled the goal that had been set for this year. This year’s Richard Albrecht. scout executive, said that to date some 1.012 boys have enrolled and that applications continue to arrive at scout headquarters in the Kingston Corners Build- ing. Kingston. Last year 338 boys enrolled in scouting activi- ties during **School Night’ and this year the goal was set at 500 new scouts. In the northeast region. which includes New England and Pennsylvania. some 103,912 boys have already enrolled as a result of ‘‘School Night", ac- cording to Mr. Albrecht. College Misericordia Plans Square Dance College Misericordia’s dean of students’ office will sponsor a square dance on campus, Oct. 31, with the entire community invited to attend. The dance is scheduled to be held in Merrick Hall on campus, from 9 to 12, with “Red” Jones as caller. Tickets for the dance will be available at the door or may be obtained in advance by contact- ing the dean of students office at the college. The ‘Iwanowskis-Ray, Julie, Ray, Jr. and Karen enjoyed a pleasant day in Totowa, N.J., visiting former neighbors. The school of religion at Gate of Heaven grades one through from 9 to 12 for the Lake- Lehman students. The junior high school will meet Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. Lehman Little League Farm Team will hold a victory dinner at the Castle Inn, Oct. 23.
