\ Popularity-wise the 1973 Dal- las Fall Fair was a ‘huge cory seater to Dan Chapman¥streasurer for this year’s affair. Mr. Chapman would give no specifics on how the fair did financially, reserv- ing comment until all ticket sale monies are in and until most of the bills are paid. He indicated that a final net figure would be a month or two coming, as it will take that long for all of the fair’s bills to come in. He hinted that this year’s financial success might be re- cord setting when he noted that the ‘attendance was larger than ever, with more grounds and more avenues covered than ever before.” He added that he felt that this, the 11th Fall Fair, was ‘bigger and better... but were pre- judiced.” : Thw new “avenues” that might have made this year’s fair the biggest yet were the helicopter rides and amuse- ment rides. Mr. Chapman noted that both appeared to be big successes, but added that since they are new additions to the fair there is nothing to compare them with. He found them at least successful enough to talk about their inclusion in next year’s fair. Mr. Chapman could make lit- tle comment on the scheduled entertainment activity, as he, like many members of the area Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, missed most of the goings on because he was too busy. He noted that he spent most of the weekend in the office at the fair, occasionally leaving to make pickups of the fair proceeds. Asked about where those pro- ceeds would be going this year, Mr. Chapman answered, ‘“We hope to shoot it to the medical center...to establish a new eC Back Mountain medical cen- ter.” He stated that there will probably soon be a major an- nouncement about the Fall Fair committee’s efforts in that direction. This year’s Fair was held Sept. 7, 8 and 9 at the Lehman Horse Show grounds. Activities included exhibits, popular music performances, .a State Police show, a caravan, fire de- partment competition, chim- panzee and snake perfor- mances, a fashion show, a queen contest, rides and motor- cycle stunt riding demonstra- tions. Colorful fruits and vegetables were in abundance at this year’s fair. Members of the Margellina family of Idetown were among the hundreds who enjoyed the games at the Dallas Fair.
