Unfortunately, every effort to either discourage or dislodge him has been to no avail. He is a mocking bird. As his name implies, he takes great delight in imitating at least 11 other birds, even if it means keeping his neighbors near Chase Corners awake all night. The only thing that seems to dampen his spirits is rain. He has been around for about three years, but this summer has been his most vocal one. Every year about this time George Bulford wishes he could go off to North Mountain for a few days of fishing. He tries to forget that it is birthday time again. Last Tuesday, his family and friends gathered for the traditional cake and ice cream, to celebrate his 88th birthday. Mrs. Ralph Miers, Mr. and Mrs. John Fielding Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Class of '48, Dallas Twp. Holds Reunion The 25th reunion of the class of 1948 of Dallas Township High School was held July 14 at Irem Susan and Frances Stash, daughters of Mr. and Mrs: Steven Stash, Chase-Huntsville Road, have been spending the summer in the Southwest, with the Southwest Volunteer Apos- tolate, sponsored by the Diocese of Gallup, N.M., doing mission work among the Navajos, Hopi, Susan has been stationed in the San Juan Valley, at Water- flow, N.M., with Shiprock visible 20 miles to the west, and the snow-capped Rockies 80 miles to the east. She works with Sister Cecelia, under the direction of Father Wottle, taking a census there and on the Navajo reservation. The girls are also sightseeing and visiting Indian ruins. Father Wottle has spent 48 years in the area, and thus is well qualified to guide them to the most interesting places, including Mesa Verde National Park, Colo.; and Grand Canyon National Park, Ariz. Susan will be spending two weeks at Whiteriver, Ariz., on the Apache reservation there. Frances has been at Gallup, N.M., where her work is with Navajo and Mexican children, involving religious training, games, and sports. She reports having learned much from them about the Navajo culture and about the secrets of the desert. She also reports that the Navajo are a gentle, soft-spoken and handsome people, usually very shy. She travels to the reservation with another 18- year old girl and a priest. They ride in a Jeep because the roads are very rough, and are impass- able half an hour after a rain. They often attend Mass in an Indian hogan or outside under the pinion trees. Frances has also traveled to Arizona a few times, and has visited Santa Fe, N.M. This apostolate is made up of a group of volunteers from all parts of the country and has been a joy to the sisters. _ The only sad note is the fact that the bright blue skies and fluffy white clouds are dis- power plants in use and to those being constructed in the Four- Corner area. This, they report, will eventually kill most of the sparse and delicate vegetation, and destroy the natural beauty of the Southwest. A brown blanket of haze now blots out the horizon in the morning. The girls plan to be driving back home during the second week in August, camping along the way. Susan is an LPN at the domarial H DALLAS Yim om A EARTH I CARE CHOICE ROUND STEAK $1.59...
