Only $3.49 Stapinski Walgreen Agency Drug, Dallas Under terms of an amended agreement with Allied Services for the Handicapped, Scranton, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania has announced that coverage for services at the Lackawanna County rehabilita- tion facility will be extended to Blue Cross subscribers without the necessity of having been hospitalized prior to application for admission. Blue Cross President Ralph S. Smith noted that the revision in admission requirements for Blue Cross subscribers at Allied Services ‘‘help open the door wider for those who are critical- ly in need of rehabilitative treatment, and particularly those persons whose periods of medical treatment where with- out the benefit of a prior general hospital stay.” He explained that, while ad- missions of eligible Blue Cross previously were restricted only to those who had met proof of medical necessity and prior hospitalization, the policy change would, in effect, help others who, upon recommenda- tion of their physicians, avail themselves of Allied Services’ diversified rehabilitative tech- niques and specialized services. Coverage for such services for eligible subscribers, he said, would be limited to a maximum period of 45 days per contract year. Within a reasonable period of time, according to Mr. Smith a study will be undertaken by Blue Cross for the purpose of measuring the effects of the newly amended admission policy. Pointing to efforts pledged by Blue Cross toward helping to re- duce hospital costs, Mr. Smith stated that the revised admis- sion requirements for Blue Cross subscribers at the Scran- ton institution could conceiva- bly help lessen the drain of Blue Cross dollars which often oc- curs through the use of costly hospital beds during long-term general hospital stays. ‘One example’, he said, ‘‘is the physician who feels strongly . that. one or more of Allied’s re- PHONE 388-6719 habilitative services would, at the onset of an illness, be more beneficial to his patient than that which would be provided during an extended general hos- pital stay. If this approach then is recommended by the physi- cian, there is the possibility that the special treatment and care received at Allied Services will contribute significantly toward tha patient’s total recovery.” Methodists To Sponsor Mission School The week of July 16 through July 22 has been set aside for the United Methodist Churches in the Wyoming Conference to hold their School of Christian Mission.
