Mr. and Mrs. Edward Corby and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ruff visited Mrs. Joseph Dotter, Bloomsburg. Eroh and Tiffany Shaffer, Windsor, Va. are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Parks. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dereemer, Raratan, N. J. were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thompson. A stork shower was held for Mrs. George Sayre at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Straley. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Gerald S. Evelan and family arrived from Germany and will be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William MacMillan, until Lt. Evelan is transferred to Alabama. They hope to spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Evelan, Canada before going to Alabama. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gunton went on the tour to Washington, D.C., sponsored by the PTA. Ball Honors Service To American Legion The third Annual Past Commanders Night Ball of the Harveys Lake American Legion Post 967 was held recently at the manders were recognized and honored, with special notice given to the 50-year service to the Legion of Isen Pennington. Present commander of the Harveys Lake post, Francis Fisher, awarded Mr. Penning- ton with a gold certificate from the Pennsylvania American Legion for his 50 consecutive years of service. Past commanders present at the annual affair were Leo Wodaski, Art Gosart, Gene Tillman, Joe Desiderio, Cal Strohl, Leo Rolands, Bob Uz- della, and Ken Jackson. Over 100 dined and danced at the legion affair. 4 Inmates at SCID Charged With Escape Major of the Guard Joseph M. Ryan, from the State Correct- ional Institution at Dallas (SCID), has filed four separate complaints of ‘‘escape’ against four convicted SCID men, with Dallas magistrate Leonard Harvey. The charges deal with men from the institution who have recently failed to return from authorized furloughs or who have escaped their guards. Michael Walzak, who scaled the wall at SCID at 1:50 p.m. June 12 is among the four charged. Mr. Walzak was recaptured the same evening, and shot several times. James T. Cousins is charged with breaking away from his guards while being escorted to a court hearing, March 9. Ralph Cruz failed to return from an authorized temporary leave June 12; and Gary Eph- ault failed to return from his authorized absence, June 9. O'Connell (R- Luzerne) announced today that grants have now been made to area. volunteer fire companies for damage and loss of equip- ment due to the June flood under the provisions of Act 6 of the special session of the general assembly, 1972. “The Harding Fire Company, RD 1, Pittston, was granted $9,364, while the West Pittston Hose Co. No. 1, 216 Spring St., West Pittston, received $3003.60 originally and a supplement of $1380, totaling $4383.60,” he pointed out.
