~ O'Donnell, 21, of 209 Poland St:,
~Swoyersville,; and Leonard
Sharon, 252 Grove St., Pringle.
The injured patrolman was
officer Carl Miers.
Mr. Kovalik was also charged
‘with malicious mischief after he
damaged a rear door of the
Dallas Township police cruiser
+ by kicking it.
Dallas. Township patrolmen
Carl Miers and Russell Banta
answered a call from _Stone-
ridge owner William Isopi at
1:10 a.m. Friday morning. Mr.
~ Isopi reported that there was a
‘fight going on that he couldnt
stop. . The . township officers
were joined ‘ by officer ‘Sev
Newberry from Dallas Borough
and by officers: Joseph Beurke
- and John Lohman of Kingston
Township.
When the police arrived they
found three . people fighting:
When ‘the brawlers refused to
hreak up the fight, the police
intervened. At that point, one of
the three mien ran. Remaining
were Mr. Kovalik and Mr.
O'Donnell.
Officer Miers reports that as
many as 20 other patrons
became involved in the ruckus,
throwing beer bottles ‘‘for the
sake of © throwing them,”
velling. and becoming involved
in the policeman-brawler
tangle:
One patron was injured when
he tried to come to the aid of a
police officer. David Dwyer, 777
Bennett St.; Luzerne, ‘was

arrested Mr. Sharon when he
{ried to stop that man from
hitting officer Banta. Mr.
Dwyer was removed to Nesbitt

The police have suggested
that Mr. Dwyer. bring assault

Mr.
Officer
during a tangle with Richard
chose to arrest the three men
and take them to the police
any other arrests because ‘“‘we.
were afraid that it would
become a riot.™
Summary citations were
issued and the men released
after eight attempts by the
officers failed to turn up a
magistrate or justice: of the
peace. Richard Kane of
Mountaintop, the. ‘‘on duty”
magistrate for that night, was
not there when the officers
called: Dallas magistrate
Leonard Harvey was ill, and six
calls to justices of the peace
also proved futile The men were
therefore issued the citations,
much like traffic tickets, and
released.
The citations order them to
appear before magistrate
Leonard Olzenski of Nanticoke
so that hearing dates may be
sel. Officer Miers reported that
he believed that Leonard
Sharon has already appeared
before the magistrate, pleaded
guilty, and has been fined.
