Northeast Pennsylvania's Ambassadors of Good Willl, the Lake-Lehman High School Band, m ed off with honors again in y petition Saturday in the Annual Pageant of Bands held at Sherburne. N.Y. Considered by many one of the finest bands in the state, they added a first prize in con- cert. first in parade and a third in field band competition to their collection of trophies. This is the first band in the history of the school to win a first prize in each of these cate- gories within a year. this fete being accomplished within one month. On May 4 and 5. the Dallas School District summer school is scheduled to begin June 25 and end Aug. 3. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude. at 12:30 p.m.. Monday through Friday. Offerings are planned in restoration courses; ‘personal use courses and enrichment courses. Proposed courses are mathe- malics, grades 7. 8 and 9; algebra 1 and II; geometry; English 7 through 12: history. social studies. grades 7 through 12; science: health: typing; reading skills and public speaking. An audio-visual workshop taught by Dr. Alfred Camp will be held for grades 4 through 11. A mathematics seminar under the direc of Edward Augus- line. chairman of the mathe- matics department, will include several topics depending on the number of students and their choices. Theatrical arts. under the direction of Donald Hopkins, will be held for students and adults. There will be a basket- hall clinic with Robert Cicon, basketball coach. in charge. Safe sport cycling education will be offered by Larry Griffin for those who have motorcycle permits or licenses. This will also be open to adults. All persons interested in registering. should contact the Dallas Senior High School office no later than June 8. Fred Templin is director of the summer school program. Va. In Sherburne, over 40 units from the northeast took part in Saturday's compelition. Lake- Lehman and the Towanda High School Band were the only two to represent Pennsylvania. Director John Miliauskas and his winners played their concert on the grounds of the new Sher- burne-Earlville Junior-Senior High School. The field contest was held in their football sta- dium and the parade was down the main street of Sherburne to the high school. The trip to New York was sponsored by the Lake-Lehman Band Sponsors Associations and many members of the associa- tion. as well as many parents and friends of band members made the trip. The band left via school buses from the high school at 5 a.m. ; Saturday. using the school’s i bookmobile to carry their in- I struments and equipment. The ; | unit made the 135-mile trip in just over four hours with an hour's stop at a drive-in for re- freshments.
