Or may- be just like to rest and rock on a porch sheltered by oaks, maples or ash? If so, try a vacation on a Pennsylvania farm, suggests James A. McHale, Secretary of Agriculture for the Keystone State. Pennsylvania farms offering vacations range in size from 50 to 800 acres. Most are working dairy or cash crop farms; some are general farms. Rates range from $65 to $110 a week. Vacationers are invited to help with farm chores. They can enjoy hayrides, see calves or kittens being born. Horseback riding, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, ten- nis, croquet, badminton and picnicking are available. Trail- bike rides, archery and clay pigeon trap shoots are also fea- tured. For those who like good eat- ing, there are home-made pies, bread, ice cream, home-cured hams and bacon. ‘“There’s nothing like a vaca- tion on a farm to soothe frazzled nerves and make a person for- get his troubles,” said Secre- tary McHale. “I believe it’s a combination of things that make farm vaca- tions so relaxing: the smell of blossoms, clean air, the early morning crow of a rooster announcing that all’s right with the world.” For information on Pennsyl- vania farm vacations, write Farm Vacations, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 2301 N.
