Kevin Coombs, Trucksville, was awarded a second place trophy for his performance in a Karate Tournament at Endicott High School, Endicott, N.Y., April 8. The trophy was award- ed by Master Hidy Ochiai, (Seventh dan) Sensei of the Academy of Martial Arts, John- son City, N.Y. The tournament was open to all students studying the Washin-ryu style of Karate in the United States and Canada under Master Ochiai. Kevin, holder of the purple belt. An all-day rain forced officials of the Susquehanna, Pa. speedplant to call the program and reset the opener for May 4. The season opener was originally set for April 13 but cold weather forced postpone- ment. A two-week setback was prompted because of the Easter weekend. The tripleheader show of modified-sportsman, late models and the new tiger class will be on the slate open- ing night. The feature event of the evening will be a 50-lap modi- fied-sportsman event which will pay the winner $500. Another $250 in lap money will be on the line.
