Page 6 Spring is ‘“POPing” out all over the Volunteers in Service to Allied Services for the Handi- capped Inc., who have an- nounced simultaneously the launching of the ‘Pyramid of Parties” (P.0O.P.) and the en- tertaining of 30 hostesses who have agrees to form the nucleus for the ambitious project. Allied Services,” which is located at 475 Morgan Highway in Scranton, is a rehabilitation facility serving the needs of the physically and mentally handi- capped of the 11 counties of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The Volunteers In Service to ALLIED SERVICES (VISTAS) feted the hostesses, who repre- sent all 11 counties, at a tour and luncheon at the Scranton facility April 10 at which Mrs. Stanley Jones, Mountaintop and Mrs. Frank Walser Jr., Conyng- ham, were present. Plans for the project were out- lined and final arrangements held for the ‘“Top of the Pyra- mid’’—the original party which will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Isaacs of Dalton, June 3. The purpose of P.O.P. is two- fold: First, to raise funds for a specially-equipped bus which will be able to transport pat- ients in wheelchairs; and second, to outfit a sorely-needed recreation center for the re- sidents at the rehabilitation complex. According to Mrs. George V. Lynett, project chairman, the P.0.P. concept, which has been successful in other cities in the United States for various chari- table purposes, functions as follows: Each person invited to the original party will pay one dollar and, in turn will invite ten people to her own gathering, each of whom will pay one dollar. Each person who attends this get-together must agree to have her own party for nine people, each to pay one dollar. These in turn, must invite eight, and the latter, seven, etc. to each in due course, paying one dollar. The gatherings can be of one’s own choosing, from a lunch or dinner to a tea, bridge, or after- bowling party. Mrs. Jack N. Newman, VISTAS chairman, explained: “If the links in the chain are not broken, we should be able to present Allied Services with much-needed equipment which otherwise could never be pur- chased.” Publick Occurrences April 12-13 Women of East Dallas United Methodist Church will hold a rummage and bake sale from 9:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday.
