Page 8 The Dallas Junior Woman's ~ Club held its March meeting recently at the Shavertown Methodist Church, Shavertown. A St. Patrick's Day motif dominated the tea table. Mrs. ~ William D. Davies, president, opened the meeting with the reading of the club collect. Department reports were made and membership chairman Mrs. Harold Haefele welcomed guests and members. She announced the following new members: Mrs. John Hines, Mrs. John Kachurick, Mrs. James Muller, Mrs. Brenda Baganski, Mrs. John Lancio and Mrs. Edward McHale. Mrs. Charles Hillard, home life chairman, announced the following chairmen for her home life committees: Mrs. Reginald Rose, card shower chairman for Sandy Daubert: Mrs. Jack Barbose, pap test chairman, and Mrs. George Yatsko, kidney donor card chairman. To date $16,500 has been donated to the Sandy Daubert Fund for her kidney transplant. Mrs. Jerry Paxton, meals on wheels chairman, announced that three people are being served at present in the Back Mountain area. Mrs. Alan Landis, chairman of the arts and craft contest, stated that winners from the senior high art contest will be presented their awards at the high school March 29. Club craft contest winners were: Mrs. William S. Michaels, first prize for her patchwork appliqued picture in the needlework kit division; Mrs. John Randolph, honorable mention for her knit cowboy suit in the same division; ‘Mrs. Kurt Cleaver, first prize for her ceramic pitcher and glass set in the ceramics division; and Mrs. James Zambo, first prize winner for her woven wall hanging in the miscellaneous craft division. Mrs. Roland Ritts, chairman of the annual Easter Egg Hunt, announced the hunt will be held April 14 at the Dallas Senior High School gym. All Back Mountain children between the ages of 3 and 8 inclusive are welcome to attend. The cost will be 15 cents per child. Each child will receive a bag of candy and orange drink. Mrs. Kurt Cleaver, chairman of the spaghetti dinner, noted that a profit of $390.66 was realized. Proceeds will be used for a community project. Mrs. Robert Shepherd, chairman of the card party May 16, announced it will be held at the Gate of Heaven auditorium. Anyone wishing to help with this project is asked to contact Mrs. Shepherd. Mrs. Harold Smith has ac- cepted chairmanship of the sale of decorator plates being sold by the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs. The plates are entitled A Portrait of Liberty and are sold exclusively by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs. Mrs. Evan Bonawitz was hostess for the evening. An optional four and six-week educational and pleasure ~ summer visit to West and East Germany is being made avail- able to Wilkes College students, faculty and friends of the insti- tution, according to an an- nouncement by Edmund Watters, member of the college’s department of educa- tion. The flight will depart from New York City June 16, and arrive in Luxembourg Sunday. Participants will be able to re- turn to New York City on either July 15 or July 30. A deadline for registrations with Mr. Watters or Arthur J. Hoover, college alumni affairs director, has been set for April 25. Although the trip is open to * those who simply wish to make it a vacation-type venture, the main purpose of the program is a special summer workshop for teachers and other students. The course, “East-West Con- trasts,” will make up a cross- cultural workshop exploring the educational, political and social systems of the Federal Repub- lic of Germany (West Ger- many) and the German Demo- cratic Republic (East Ger- many). People, their way of life, their education and their cultural will be the focal point of the workshop. The program, as explained by Mr. Watters, will include lec- tures and discussions with pro- minent German leaders and educators; visits to different types of schools in East and West Germany; dialogues with German educators and stu- dents; actively sharing of ideas and techniques with German teachers; living in the home of a German host or hostess; visits to industries, hospitals, forests and various social institutions. Directed by Helen J. Dunbar regional director for Empire Beauty School, and Mary Agnes Mangle, supervisor of the school, the contest was con- ducted first by having six finalists selected by their fellow students from among those in the entire school, and finally having four judges narrow it runner-up. The attractive young ladies were judged on face, figure, grooming, style, poise and personality. Winner of the local competition is Shirley Grady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Grady Sr., Noxen. Miss Grady is“a’ recents graduate of Lake- Lehman High School, and has been a student at Empire Beauty School for the last several months. She will now go on to the Carnival of Beauty at the Statler Hilton in Harrisburg, where she will compete among winners of 16 Empire Beauty Schools. The first place winner ot that contest, which is spon- sored by the 43-year Empire Beauty School system, will be crowned “Miss Empire 1973. Last year’s winner was awarded a trophy plus a grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to Rome via jet. The 16 finalists will be competing in casual outfits, dinner or cocktail dresses, swim suits, evening. gowns, sport clothes, etc., and will participate in a styling com- petition.
