His third place win marks the closest a District 2 grappler has come to a state title since Francis ‘Yogi’ Michael of G.A.R. captured the 138-pound title in 1966. ON Dave, District 2 champ and runner-up in the Northeastern Regional tournament, ad- vanced to the semi-finals Saturday afternoon by decisioning Bob Banks, District 7 and Southwestern Regional champ, by a score of 12-10. In the afternoon Hout he dropped a 5-4 dec-ision to Larry Kepp, District 3 and Southeast- ern Regional champ. The Mountaineer senior dropped a tough match with Kepp, getting a point riding time to take the bout. Dave picked up the first two points by taking down the Central Dauphin senior but was reversed by Kepp when he rode too high. Kepp rode him out for the remainder of the first period, picking up 1:13 riding time. Longmore won the toss in the second and chose top but Kepp points on a reversal and again used a crab ride. Longmore rest of the period. The stronger District 3 grappler was on top at the opening of the third period and stymied Longmore by using a tight waist and chicken wing. Longmore never gave up and used standouts but was unable to break loose and Kepp took the bout on 1:56 time advantage. It marked the first time in Longmore’s wrestling career that he was on the short end of riding time. Kepp went into the finals against James Carr of East U.S. Olympic team, who par- ticipated in the Munich games. Carr decisioned Kepp 9-3 to pick up the state title. Longmore captured third place by decisioning Ryder, District 4, who decisioned Dave in the Northeastern Regionals at Williamsport. Last Saturday was a different story, as Long- more earned two points in the second period with a near fall; two more on a reversal in the third and a 1-point time advan- tage. Rider’s only point came on an escape. Dave Puchalsky, 132-pound District 2 Northeastern Region- al champ, lost in the quar- terfinals Friday night when Harwick, District 7 and South- western Regional runner-up, tied up Puchalsky’s legs and worked one arm to keep the Dallas junior on the mats, whitewashing him 5-0.
