Page 16 : United Methodist Women of the Shavertown United Metho- dist Church are busy for the fourth consecutive year making chocolate-covered Easter eggs. Although the women’s society is responsible for the project, the men of the church can also be found making themselves use- ful in the kitchen. Last year 23,000 eggs were made, and the project has be- come the most successful of the church. There has been no set amount planned for this year, but the women hope to break last year’s record. Each Monday or Tuesday for weeks preceding Easter, 50 about the task of making peanut butter, cocoanut cream, butter cream or mint eggs. . There are many jobs—mea- suring, cooking, mixing egg whites, rolling, chocolate dipping and packaging, and not the least, making certain the right order gets to the right per- son. Ingredients for the eggs are purchased locally. Order dates coming up are March 26, April 3, 9and 12. Eggs may be ordered from the co- chairmen, Mrs. Stephen John- son or Mrs. Wilson Honeywell. All orders must be picked up no later than 4 p.m. on the above dates. Proceeds from the project are used for the church. Last year $500 of the money went to the Wyoming Conference for flood relief. Shavertown United Methodist Church women measure and roll candy eggs before dipping them into chocolate. Kingston Twp. Officials Parking Problem Plagues The Sunday parking situation of Unclaimed Freight, Carver- ton Road, Trucksville is still a problem to Kingston Township officials. The Kingston Town- and are greatly effected by the parking situation daily, but es- pecially on Sundays when traf- fic reaches its peak. egg project. Daughter of Ambassador ship Planning and Zoning Board will send a letter to Robert Mr. Bakunas stated that he has not yet received the letter The Back Mountain Protec- tive Association will award College Misericordia the Back Mountain Community Service Award for its outstanding service to Wyoming Valley during the flood. With two hospitals temporarily out of business due to flooding, Wyoming Valley was aided tremendously by the temporary medical center set up at the college in Dallas. The Emer- gency Medical Center did a fine job, receiving and treating acci- dent cases, setting up a mater- nity ward and an out-patient clinic. Dr. F. Budd Schooley, 15-year president of the association, points out that the award was unanimously voted to the college, although there were several other considerations for the award. The award has been given to deserving institutions and individuals serving the Back Mountain area during the Protective Associations’ 32 years of service. The award is not given out every year, only during years when a large enough contribution has been shown. Sister Miriam Teresa, RSM, president of the college, will receive it at a dinner meeting of the Back Mountain Protective Association to be held at the Irem Temple Country Club. The date of the event has not yet been decided. With President Everell Chadwick overseeing the arrangements, the affair is promised to be one of the out- standing events of the year in the Back Mountain. Atty. James L. Brown, solicitor for the association, will extend an invitation to Dan Flood to at- tend. A number of years ago College Misericordia was recipient of the same award for their contribution to the Back Mountain, including their scholarships to local students. * Dr. Schooley termed Miseri- cordia’s contribution this year, “a Godsend to this area’. The Back Mountain Protec- tive Association has been serving the Back Mountain since it “got into business’ bringing adequate water supplies to the Back Mountain region. Still attempting to protect the taxpayers of the Back Mountain and Wyoming Valley, they are currently engaged in a legal fight over what they feel are excessive electricity rates. Dr. Schooley terms it “fighting a multi- million dollar corporation, with monopoly status, who cares more for shareholders and for the salaries of (higher-ups), than. . .for their customers.” He reports that they’ve received checks recently from the Swoyersville Borough Tax- payers Association and from a similar group of §Zarveys Lake taxpayers, as eu help from many other groups in the area, in their fight. They are waiting for the promised financial assistance of the Lehman group as well. Brownie Project Success for One In January, Brownie Troop 929, Shavertown made pine cone bird feeders. Each girl took one home and hung it outside. Although some of the girls sadly «reported that the “naughty squirrels’ stole their feeder, one Brownie, Jane Hudak, hung her feeder outside the front window and watched patiently every day for the birds to come. One day her vigil was rewarded when two little birds came and shared the goodies. The birds came back again and again until all the seed and peanut butter was gone. This proved a rewarding project for one Brownie. A ————— It Pays To Advertise from the Planning and Zoning Board but when he does, he will comply with all laws that are set down. He also said that he is looking for larger quarters with adequate parking facilities. Bakunas, Pittston, owner of Un- claimed Freight, requesting that he enlarge his parking lot and obtain written permission from area businessmen to use their parking facilities. Trucksville Pharmacy, Sneak-a-Snack Shop, Vern Prit- chard, tax collector, and Bul- lock’s Service Station are locat- ed in the same general area, HOW'S YOUR PR? Meanwhile, there seems to be no answer to the problem which plagues local merchants, King- ston Township officials, and Un- claimed Freight. Meet the public relations improvers. FREE!
