Page 18 ‘Mrs. Robert Casselberry, president of the League of Women Voters of the Wilkes- Barre Area, has announced that the League will hold its annual finance drive during the month of February. Mrs. John M. Vinck is chairman, assisted by Mrs. Casselberry; Mrs. John E. Dahne, Mrs. H. Merritt Hughes Jr., Mrs. Anthony Marlino and Mrs. Ernest E. Patella. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote political responsibility through the informed and active par- ticipation of citizens in government. It functions on local, state, and national levels. The League, like all other residents of Wyoming Valley, has felt the wrath of Hurricane Agnes and is left with a monumental task of reorganization. The next big star for the young set, according to the current issue of Flip teen magazine, could be Michael Gray, who appears on NBC- TV’s “The Little’ People.” “The Little People,” aired at the same time as ABC-TV’s “The Partridge Family,” is getting good reviews and ratings despite the tough com- petition. And Michael Gray's teen fan mail indicates that he may be much of thé reason. taken on added importance. “If we are to survive as a valuable community service,” said Mrs. Vinck, ‘this drive must .be successful.” Among the many unique community services the League provides are a voter’s guide, published twice a year, giving nonpartisan information on candidates and issues to enable the citizen to cast an informed vote; a government directory containing voting information, plus a listing of state and local government officials; a speaker’s bureau available to the community; an observer corp attending and reporting on local government, planning, and school board meetings; pamphlets and materials on governmental and related topics available to the com- munity and its schools. “We hope our record in the community will encourage both our members and the citizens of Wilkes-Barre and its surrounding areas to support our organization and help us reach our financial goal,” said Mrs. Vinck. “With their. help, we can not only continue our important services, but expand them.” Debbie Ostrum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ostrum, Shavertown, was installed as Worthy Advisor of Charles James Memorial Assembly No. 144, at Dallas Jan. 18. Debbie chose as her theme, ‘‘Friend- ship’’; green and yellow for her colors; and an aster as her flower. During her term there is scheduled a Mother’s Day Tea, an anniversary dinner, and an annual Rainbow. church ser- vice. Debbie's service project will be a party for patients at the VA hospital.
