A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Burton is currently a member of the faculty at that school. Prior to joining the faculty, he toured the U.S. and Europe with such well known jazz orchestras as the groups of George Shearing and Stan Getz. He also has his own jazz group which has been awarded top ratings by the music critics. Press kudos include ‘combo of the the year”, ‘best jazzman of the year”, and ‘“‘best vibe player of the year’. For the Festival of Stage Bands, scheduled to be held at the Irem Temple Auditorium in Wilkes-Barre Feb. 24, Burton will join two other judges in selecting the best college and high school bands from among the contestants. Although not all entries are in, the Festival is expected to include at least eight bands, four from each category. Following com- petition, the judges will supply each contestant with a critique of their performance. Tentative plans have been laid to conduct a musicians’ workshop the afternoon of the Festival, according to O’Malia, The evening’s competition will be held in the Irem Temple at 8. The workshop is being held in fulfillment of the Marywood SSW’s commitment to the enhancement of health delivery services to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Leon Ginsberg, dean of the West Virginia University School of Social Work, will serve as workshop consultant and keynote speaker.
