Golden wedding anniversary celebrations have become old hat in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Morris King of 120 East Center St., Shavertown. On Dec. 27, the Kings will observe their 55th line anniversary--but Mr. King insists there’ll be ‘no fuss.” After all, he says, four of his siblings enjoyed golden weddings too. The Kings were married in the Episcopal Church at Laporte Dec. 27, 1917 by the late Rev. Vaughn Davies. Born and raised in Nordmont 83 years ago, Mr. King took a teaching job in Sullivan County shortly teaching there for seven years before moving to the Back College Misericordia students, accustomed to musical groups from the college presenting public concerts, were tinted to a private concert ¥ the college’s choral ensemble presented a Christ- mas concert for the student body Friday. * Under the direction of Clifford Balshaw, the ensemble sang “Bring Thy Glory to Us,” ‘Ave Maria,”” ‘Glory In Excelsis - Agnus Dei,” “Dido and Aneas,’’ Music major Barbara Jones presented a solo, singing ‘‘The Shepards’’ by Peter Cornelius. SW A duet, ‘Donn In Seiner Hand,” was performed by Joanne Fumanti and Suzanne Kachik. Other students presenting special performances during the concert were Bernice Burke, solo soprano in Purcell’s “Dido and ‘Aneas’’; and Louise Kandrac, soprano, and Eleanor Shields, flutist, who performed soli in the “Magnificat.” The ensemble concert has become an annual Christmas tradition at College Miseri- cordia as has the Christmas Madrigal Dinner. Mr. King was the first super- vising principal of the old Dallas Township School (now the Dallas Intermediate School) for two years before changing assignments and teaching for 21 years at Jackson Township. A hobbyist of wide repute, Mr. King has fashioned authentic scale models of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Colosseum of Rome and a pioneer’s wood cabin. He presently works as a jack-of-all trades at Moon Lake Park, and was responsible for the park’s attractive masonry entrance wall. Mrs. King, the former Bessie Thoma, is a native of 51 Church St., Wilkes-Barre. According to her husband, she has spent the major part of her time during the past 55 years ‘‘taking care of the children and staying young.” The Kings have six children: Ernest, Lehman; Dorothy Breeden, at home; Mary Stanko, Old Bridge, N.J.; Alberta Reilly, Dushore; Earl, Pittston; James, Stroudsburg. Both concerts will be given at 8:30 p.m. The committee is concerned with getting information to the entire region, taking in cities as far away as East Stroudsburg, Honesdale, Bloomsburg and Hazleton. This concert will be one of the most spectacular of the Northeastern Philharmonic season of 72-73. It will feature professional soloists of local and national reputation. The guest chorus for the occasion will be the Bloomsburg State College Chorus. Tickets for the event can be obtained at the box office. The American film classics series begun at College Misericordia during the fall semester will begin anew with Youth Promoted Lance Corporal Marine Lance Corporal Mark H. Dodson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Dodson, RD 2, Hunlock Creek, was promoted to his pre- sent rank while serving with Fighter-Attack Squadron 251 at the Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C. He joined the Marine Corps in November 1971. the beginning of the spring semester, according to a spokesman for the college's Cultural Events Program. Starting Jan. 29, the series will feature Citizen Kane, followed by My Darling Clementine Feb. 5; On The Waterfront March 5, and concluding with Long Day’s Journey Into Night March 12. February 12 is being held as an open date in the series while committee members check availability of films for that date. As in the fall, the films will be shown in Walsh Auditorium at the college and will be open to the public at no charge.
