Page 6 Huntsville Christian To Sponsor Troop At its regular monthly meeting of the church board, the Huntsville Christian Church unanimously voted to accept the sponsorship of a new scout troop to be organized this month. The Rev. Paul Duncan, pastor of the church, stated that the church has extended the use of its facilities for a meeting place and will provide any other assistance needed. The troop will be organized under Scoutmaster Willard Russell of Shavertown. Mr. Russell is an experienced scout leader, having served as scoutmaster for several troops, most recently having been a scoutmaster in Germany while stationed there. Preparations are now under way to have a complete program developed by the first meeting this month. Mr. Russell stated that the first meeting will be held Dec. 27 at 7 at the Huntsville Christian Church. This will be an organizational meeting and all boys and their parents are urged to attend. Good at- tendance at this meeting will enable the troop to begin its regular program immediately following the holidays. For further information, please contact Willard Russell at 696- 3145. Knights of Columbus Reveal June Plans Preliminary announcement of the Exemplification of the Fourth Degree, the highest de- gree attainable within the Knights of Columbus, has been made by Past State Deputy, Worthy Master Bernard Shock- loss of Wyoming. Mr. Shockloss stated that the announcement is being made at this time due to many requests from many Sir Knights and eli- gible candidates for embracing the Fourth Degree, to enable them to schedule vacations or time off from their employment or place of business so that they may be a part of this patriotic degree and the special acti- vities. The degree will be conferred June 10, 1973, at Allentown, with Exemplification Headquarters located at the George Wash- ington Motel, Allentown. Holiday Plants Are Poisonous Some familiar Christmas plants are poisonous and can be a hazard to children if they are accidentally swallowed, ac- cording to Jack B. Ogun, chief of the Special Services and Plant Inspection section of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. ‘The poinsettia plant and the mistletoe sprigs which are so closely associated with Christmas cheer can cause a tragedy,” he said. The poinsettia leaf when eaten can produce burning in the mouth and throat, sneezing, diarrhea, and possibly collapse and death. Milk and raw egg white can be given as a first aid measure until a physician can be reached. Mistletoe berries have caused death in children and are of- ficially rated as being moderately toxic. First aid is to induce vomiting. “In any case of poisoning, it is essential that the victim see a doctor as soon as possible,” he added. Less common but - still hazardous Christmas greens include European bittersweet and Jerusalem cherry, both of which are rated very toxic, and yew, which is rated moderately toxic. ove, March of Dimes THIS SPACE CONTRIBUTED BY THE PUBLISHER THE DALLAS POST, DEC. 21, 1972 A Greenstreet News Co.
