With Win The Mountaineers of Dallas High School rolled over the Tunkhannock Tigers in their opening match of the 1972-73 wrestling season. Coach Jim Baigrick’s grapplers posted a of victory in the non- conference meet at the Dallas gym. Capturing 10 of the 12 bouts, three of the Dallas matmen registered pins. D. Konnick (105) showed Robinson the lights in 1:26. D. Puchalsky (138) turned over the Tigers’ R. Ransom in 3:26 and 155 1b. R. Johnson put B. Shaver away in 2:27. The Mounts’ S. Pinter earned the team’s first 6 points on a Schaefer, to give the Tigers 5. From that point on it was forfeit and Konnick’s pin gave the blue and white matmen 6 more. B. Corbett extended the score to 15-0 by decisioning 112 1b. J. Fields 12-4. The Tigers earned their first points when 119 1b. E. Nauroth decisioned G. Siegel 5-0 to give the Tigers 2, having lost a team point in an earlier bout because of unsportsmanlike conduct. D. Longmore (126) came through for the Mounts with an 11-3 decision over C. Otten, making the team score 18-2. T. Musto started out strong, but ran out of gas as he dropped an 11-4 decision to 132 1b. D. Last Wednesday the Lake- Lehman Knights defeated Bishop Hoban 51-8 in a wrestling meet held at Lake-Lehman High School. On their way to victory the Knights registered six pins. Gary Ross (98) pinned John Gdovin in 3:37; 112 pounder Jim Davis pinned Tim Melan in a spe :35; the quickest pin was scored by Don Wagner, who seconds. Bill Jones’ pin was a close- runner over Tom Wanat in 38 seconds; Emmet Hoover pinned Ron Boback in 1:25; Mark Wallo, weighing in at 185 pounds, pinned Al Jamiolakowski in 3:45. The Knights also scored three decisions—Doug Agnew over Jerry Stilp, 7-0; George Nixon over Tim Evans, 7-1; and Tom Williams over Mark Soniak, 8-1. A super decision was scored by John Brown over Ken Polacheck, 15-2. The Knights’ Gary Gordon grappled with Bill Drevitch to a 6-6 draw, the only one of the match. Dec. Pennsylvania Dec 3 Dec. BROS. Kasper (119) made it 15-0 by decisioning Kirch 9-5 and C. Samuels (126) scored the fastest pin of the evening by turning over Harter in 1:19. With Dallas out in front, 21-0, D. Enslin gave them 4 more by taking Malkemes (132) 13-2. B. McDonald made it 28-0 by Pennsylvania. proving too much for Forba George Gilbert, WARM (138) to the tune of 5-1. The Mountaineers looked promising in their first meet last Saturday night and coach Jim Bamrick’s young wrestlers should outdo their last season’s record of 10-3. With eight seniors and four juniors on the Brother’s Place, visited the Dallas Senior High School last Friday to presnt Coach Jack Jones with the Warmland trophy for coaching his football team to the No. 1 position in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The trophy, donated by Mr. varsity, he also has three Roccograndi, is an annual district runners-up in award initiated by Ron Allan, Puchalsky, Longmore and former WARM sportscaster. Konnick. In the absence of Coach It should be an exciting season with Dallas, Hanover, Meyers, and Valley West the favorite teams. Showing promise for filling in spots are some promising junior varsity boys, among them M. Cook, D. Enslin, J. Kasper, S. Shook, P. Adams, and C. Samuels. Following a Dec. 20 match against Wyalusing away, the Mountaineers will match their skill against Coughlin (away) after the first of the year. Jones, who is recuperating at home from a recent illness, assistant coach Fred Templin received the trophy on behalf of the football team. Station WARM also presented Coach Jones with a plaque in recognition of his selection as “Coach of The Year” by Radio Station 590. 4 Coach Templin in turn presented the Dallas coach with both the trophy and the plaque at his home Monday afternoon. Employ the Handicapped Last Saturday evening the Lake-Lehman wrestling team defeated Wyalusing 32-27 in a close match held at Wyalusing. The Knights’ victory marked the first time they have ever defeated Wyalusing. The Knights’ scoring came on decisions at 119 and 138; superior decisions at 112 and 126; and pins at 98, 145 and 167. Wyalusing’s points came on pins at 105, 155, 185 ‘and heavyweight and a decision at 132. The results of the match are as follows: 98-Gary Ross. Opens Season With 1-Win; 1-Loss by Richard Andrasko So far this season, the Lake- Lehman Knights basketball team is one and one after their first two exhibition games. The Knights’ were victorious in their first game by a score of 41-40 over Benton in a home game. The leading scorer in that game was Frank Bogdon with 15 points. Also helping out were Dave White and Vince Stryjewski with some strong rebounding. In their second outing, the Knights were. defeated by Pittston Area by a score of 67- 30. Leading , the Knights in scoring was Dave White with 8 points.
