Page 10 Jackson Township by Millie Hogoboom 696-2603 Mr. and Mrs. Ben Franklin of Shavertown visited Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Matchette, for- mer residents of Dallas, at their home in Palmyra, N.Y. Ben operates the Gulf Station on the highway in Trucksville which he purchased some years ago from Mr. Matchette. The Matchettes and their five children will soon be moving to Marietta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Casper of Hillside Road have returned from a vacation at Montego Bay, Jamaica, where tem- peratures were in the 90’s! Mrs. Gary Miller and Mrs. Elmer Laskowski took a bus tour to New York City last Saturday. They attended the play ‘‘No, No, Nanette’’ and did other sightseeing and shopping as well. Mrs. Edgar Lashford of Sutton Road spent 10 days in Atlantic City, where she at- tended the annual meeting of the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, Mrs. Lashford is currently serving on two committees of the board, the Women’s Dvision and the United Methodist Committee on Relief. A large group of Dallas Rotarians, including Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maturi and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Weggel, all of Sutton Road, attended the Penn State—Syracuse football game at Penn State. Enroute home the group stopped for dinner at the Foot Hills Manor in Shickshinny. We have heard of three lucky hunters during the past week of small game season and they are all teenagers. Tom Weggel bagged a pheasant; Guthrie Conyngham Jr., a woodcock; and Andy Hogoboom, a grouse. They are indeed fortunate to live in a part of the country where wildlife is still abundant. Our sympathy is extended to the family of Alice Zick who was a native and life resident of Jackson Township. We also extend sympathy to Ray and Thomas Turner and Mrs. Carl Hedden. Their father, Thomas Turner, died this week at the age of 83. The members of Girl Scout Troop 645, Dallas, led by Mrs. Robert Cartier and Mrs. Ed- ward Kale, visited Harrisburg, Hershey Park, and Roadside America. The girls toured the capitol building and the State Police Academy. The Shavertown-Trucksville Girl Scout Neighborhood meeting has been postponed from Nov. 9 to Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kingston Township Municipal Building. Mrs. Elwood Swingle is Neighbor- hood Director. Corrine Pawling is the new leader of Brownie Troop 650. She will be assisted by Ruth Ann Orehotsky. The investiture for incoming Brownies was held with the following girls admitted: Melissa Adessa, Carrie Bat- chler, Chris Crabtree, Suzy Hannigan, Anne Hollinger, Suz- anne Lehman, Katie O’Konski, Jennifer Orehotsky, Robin Pawling, Karen Reabuck. Aileen Hannigan and Mary Beth O’Konski served refresh- ments following the investiture. The troop hiked to Ricketts Glen and also visited Eggleston's Cider Mill in Vernon. Mrs. Joseph Cominsky is leader of Brownie Troop 637 assisted by Mrs. Peter Duda as co-leader. Committee chairmen are Mrs. E. Kapson, telephone; Mrs. Donald Shaffer, calen- dars; Mrs. E.B.Ceal, cookies; Mrs. Jack Miller, transpor- tation; Mrs. S.T.Mahle, com- mittee member. The troop meets Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at Dallas Elementary School. Take Advantage of the View— When deciding on the location of the living room in your building plans, don’t be bound by the tradition that the room must be located at the front of the house. Mrs. Helen Puskar, Extension home furnishings specialist at The Pennsylvania State Univer- sity says, instead, consider your family’s preferences and your site. For example, you might have a better view if the room overlooks the side yard or back- yard. And such a location could permit opening the living room directly to an outdoor living area or patio.
