According to the U.S. Depart- ment of Agriculture’s Northeast Regional Food and Nutrition Service office, these persons have paid about $18 million for food stamps valued at $32 million. Currently there are 478 food retailers in the county author- ized by the USDA to accept coupons from the 16,000 persons who normally take part in the program each month. During the last three months, approxi- mately 250,000 persons have vestigated the problem, Daniel Ripa of the county registration office announced that the site would be changed to the Jackson Township ‘‘garage’’ for registration on Saturday and Sunday because of pre- scheduled affairs planned for the Fire House that weekend. Persons wishing to obtain more information as to whether they qualify are advised to make an appointment to visit the food stamp certification officer at the Luzerne County Board of Assistance in Wilkes- Barre. Patricia Lynn Williams of Dallas, a graduate of Dallas Senior High School, was one among 17 new Monmouth College students awarded Trus- tee Scholarships for the 1972-73 academic year. The scholarships are provided from a fund estab- lished by the college’s Board of Trustees and awarded each year to students who are out- standing high school graduates. Trustee Scholarships, pro- viding either full or half tuition for four years of college, are given on the basis of the student’s academic record, evidence of good character, and Y. leadership. Eleven of the students are receiving full sch- olarships, while the remaining six were awarded half-tuition scholarships. A 3.00 out of a possible 4.00 cumulative grade point index must be maintained to retain the scholarship. High school transcripts of new Monmouth students are re- viewed and the candidates deemed eligible are invited for an interview at the college. The college admissions com- mittee then reviews the can- didates and selects the students who will be offered the scholar- ship. F TIME : Consisting of STEERS, all Breeds. and buyers. place to buy. Sch- weiker’s mandatory screening amendment, providing that every passenger on every airline be screened by elect- ronic-detection devices before boarding airplane flights, was scheduled for debate Sept. 20 on S. 2280, the Air Transportation Security Act of 1972. The amendment directs the Federal Aviation Admini- stration to impose airports and air carriers to screen all pass- engers and their carry-on luggage with an electronic detection device. Both the Senate and the House have already included funds for these devices in the appropriations bill for the Department of Transportation for Fiscal Year 1973, H.R. 15097.
