As . After 26 veterinarian years as John Bucha pavilion of Irem Temple Country Club Aug. 6 at 8 p.m. The program will open with a 15 minute vesper service followed by the band concert. This will be the fifth Sunday evening concert this summer sponsor by Irem Temple. The Irem Temple Band consists of 58 members from all areas of northeastern Pennsyl- vania. All bandsmen are members of Irem Temple and are a cross section of all types of occupations---doctors, engin- eers, businessmen, teachers, morticians, laborers, bankers, etc. The band performs Wilkes-Barre 'Y’ Re-Schedules Trips like most of the Valley—is back in working order. Mrs. E.B. Macpherson, executive di- rector; Mrs. Thomas Smith, adult director; Mrs. Frank Murphy, sical education di- rector, are working with the aid of staff members and YWCA members to get the building clean and ready for late fall program. YWCA members not affected@ly the flood are asked to give a hand and volunteer one day to help get things in order. Mrs. Smith is trying to keep some of her program going and upon request has re-scheduled many trips and tours. The fol- lowing will be re-scheduled: Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Museum; Hudson River Valley and the Dutch Country. The following {rips will be held on the scheduled dates: Camelback Playhouse, Aug. 23; Pocono Playhouse, Sept. 6; Egg Harbor and Atlantic City, Sept. 20 and the six day trip to Maine, Aug. 14 to 19. Mrs. L. M. Van Orsdale has volunteered to take reserva- tions for trips. Any members with reservations are requested to call her at her home, Tilbury Terrace West Nanticoke, to confirm the reservations. Dr. Dorothea, are bidding a fond adieu to their adoptive home and are heading for Locusts- ville, Va., and a retirement filled with rest, relaxation and—fishing! Locustsville is a community five miles from the Chesapeake Bay, a ‘‘pond” wherein it is said reside the biggest, juiciest and wariest fish in the world! The son of the late George and Mary Flack of Bucks County, Dr. Flack received his degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and practiced in Pittsburgh five years before settling in the Back Mountain. He has been ably assisted in his practice by his wife, the Band Plans in both concerts and parades throughout the northeastern Pennsylvania area. It has also played in parades at the national conventions in most major cities throughout the country. The next scheduled post- concert activity will be a parade in Atlantic City, Sept. 16. A varied program of music is included on the program--with marches, concert music and show tunes. A trumpet trio of Dr. Herman Gerstein, Earl Macarty and Dr. George former Dorothea Devaney, who and Mrs. Flack have operated an animal hospital on the Memorial Highway in Trucksville for many years. Flack’s practiice will be Dr. John Bucha, an Allentown native who is currently prac- ticing in Kearny, N.J. A graduate of Penn State Univer- sity, Dr. Bucha shares with Dr. Flack not only a love of animals but an alma mater—Dr. Bucha is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bucha opened his practice here Aug. 1, and will reside in the home adjacent to the animal hospital. Concert DeCurtis will play the “Trumpeters Lullaby.” Bobby Baird will play ‘Londonderry Air” as a solo. The program closes with the playing of ‘‘Stars and Stripes Forever’ by John Phillip Sousa. Downey of Harts- dale, N.Y., has been named new academic dean at College Misericordia, it was announced today by Sister Miriam Teresa, RSM, president of the college. Dr. Downey succeeds Dr. Marvin J. LaHood as academic dean at the college. LaHood has accepted a position as Dean of Salem State College in Salem, Mass. A native of Newfoundland, Dr. Downey received his B.S., M.A., and PhD. in Philosophy from Fordham University. He has pursued post-doctoral stu- dies at the University of Michi- gan, Xavier University, and the Prior to accepting the position at College Misericordia, Dr. Downey was Dean of Mills College of Education in New York City. He has also served as vice president and acting presi- dent of Iona College in New York and as vice president of St. Leo College, also in New York. Dr. Downey’s official biography appears in “Who's Who in the East,” “The Direc- tory of American sophers,” and in ‘Marquis’ Who’s Who.” He is a member of both the American Catholic Philosophical Association and the Metaphysical Society of America. The Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Heart Association and the Kirby Health Center have re- activated their heart screening program. Individuals over the age of 30 wishing to have their hearts checked to determine if they are in risk of having a heart attack may report to the Kirby Health Center, Wilkes-Barre any Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Testing will be done by trained technicians at the center. Persons found through the test to be outside normal limits will have a 12 lead electrocardiogram tracing taken. Also included in the examination are blood tests for cholesterol and sugar. All reports will be mailed to the individual’s physician. A nominal fee of $5 is charged.
