Jay Pope, Warden Avenue, was recently elected president of Bloomsburg State College Choir. Jay will graduate with a degree in secondary edu- cation later this month. He has been accepted in graduate school at Bloomsburg. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle J. Pope. Irem Temple Country Club was the setting for the testi- monal dinner given Dr. Rosen- burg of Sutton Road by his asso- ciates and friends. He received an oil portrait as a gift. Dr. Rosenburg, who heads the Com- merce and Finance Department at Wilkes College, will relin- quish that post in June after serving 25 years. Steno Machine Demonstrated College Misericordia business education majors received a mini-lesson in touch shorthand recently when a representative of the Stenograph Corporation demonstrated some of the com- pany’s latest stenographic equipment. John D. Palmer, chairman of the. department of business technologies at Anne Arundel Community College in Mary- land and business representa- tive for Stenograph, visited the business education department at College Misericordia to con- duct the workshop. Mr. Palmer demonstrated a new touch shorthand recorder usually associated with court- room reporting but now used extensively in the business community. The compact re- corder prints phonetic words as the secretary types in short- hand. Mr. Palmer was invited to address the students by Imelda Brislin, assistant professor of business education at the college. 1972 Final plans have been made for the annual installation dinner meeting of the Welcome Wagon Club of Wyoming Valley. The affair, which is scheduled for May 22 at the Treadway Motor Inn, Plains, will begin with Dutch treat cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:15 in the Presidential Room. Mrs. Peter Touw is chairman of the affair. The Dallas Womens Club Chorale will provide enter- tainment. The new officers to be in- stalled are: Mrs. John Dahne, president; Mrs. William Sigman, first vice-president; Mrs. William Wentz, second vice-president; Mrs. David Shelby, treasurer; Mrs. Dale Merkey, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Robert Kar- pinski, recording secretary; and Mrs. William Augsburger, historian. LaHood, academic dean. The evening of May 19 will mark the beginning of ac- tivities. First event is the Senior-Faculty dinner in Merrick Hall on campus. Seniors and their parents will be feted by the college at an in- formal reception the afternoon of May 20. The annual hooding ceremony will be held im- mediately following the reception. During the ceremony, which will be held on the campus front lawn, graduates will receive bac- calaureate hoods from the college president, Sister Miriam Teresa, RSM. Each hood’s color will represent specific baccalaureate degrees. Several events are set for graduation’ day, May 21. A Baccalaureate Mass starts the day at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Wilkes-Barre, with seniors entering the church in procession up South Washington Street. They will be ac- companied by an honor guard from the Knights of Columbus. The front lawn of the campus will be the scene of the Com- mencement ceremony at 4 in the afternoon. The Rev. Michael T. Walsh, S.J., Ph.D. current president of Fordham University and for- mer president of Boston College, will be guest speaker. During the ceremony, several seniors will be presented with awards for outstanding academic achievement over their four years at the college. Two honorary degrees are to be conferred this ygar by College Misericordidgf Sister Mary Celistine McHale, RSM, a College Misericordia alumna, former Provincial Superior of the Sisters of Mercy, and the first active full-time president of College Misericordia, will be presented with a Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris causa, degree. j The Hon.
