One hundred thirty-two pounds of peanut butter could make the - world’s biggest peanut bufter sandwich—or thousands peticious chocolate covered Easter eggs. The WSCS of the Shavertown United Methodist Church has chosen to use the peanut butter for Easter eggs, and they have many lip- smacking customers who agree that it’s put to very good use. For the past month, over 45 members: of the WSCS, other church members and friends have been gathering on Thursdays at the Shavertown church to make the more than 20,000 candy eggs which will be sold this year. Mrs. Rose Williams, who has headed the & project for the three years since its inception, maintains that although there is a great deal of work involved, ‘‘there’s also a lot of fellowship ‘and good selves.” The candy making process is, to use Mrs. Williams’ ex- pression, ‘‘touchy,” inasmuch as temperatures must be just right and there can be no delays once the recipe is underway. “We've had a couple of flops in the past,” Mrs. Williams concedes, ‘but we've learned from the experience and have had very good luck since then.” The ‘egg customers’ agree. The WSCS has established a reputation for tasty Easter confections which has spread throughout the Back Mountain area and beyond. The Easter eggs are coated with semi- sweet chocolate and come in four flavors: butter cream, coconut cream, peanut butter and mint. Despite inflation, the WSCS has been able to hold the price. at a dime per egg, although larger eggs are now available in $.20 and $.30 size. For a nickel extra, the candy eggs are lettered and decorated. The last day to order Easter eggs this year will be March 22. Orders are presently being taken by Mrs. Williams and her co-chairmen, Mrs. Keith Murray and Mrs. Fred Ostrum.. Photo by J. Kozemchak Sr. Photo by J. Kozemchak Sr. Photo by J. Kozemchak Sr. the eggs.
