Puchalsky advanced to the finals by earning a super decision 19-0 over West Seranton’s J. Connor, decisionin Hardter, GAR 12- 0 and doing the same thing to Valley West’s Grove 10-4. Senior Dave Ellis, Meyers, was too much for him in the final bout and took Jyjm 9-1. Dave will be back nex™@year and should be able to cop a championship for the Mountaineers along with Longmore. Lake-Lehman’s J. Brown lost this weight to Grove in the preliminaries. Mike Kasper, Dallas, at 138 looked good as he clamped Wyoming Area’s J. Bartolomei, then went on to decision GAR’s Turinski 7-5. In the semi-finals, he decisioned Scranton Cen- tral’s Sergey 2-1 but Butler, West Side Tech; had too much strength for him in the finals as he showed him the lights in 4:34. The Knights’ E. Stredney lost his first bout to Hanover’s Draina 8-2. Young D. Konnick came close to a title in the 88 lb, bout ad- vancing to the finals where he lost in quvertime to Scranton Central’s®illon in an exciting 3- 1 bout. The Knights’ 95 Ib G. Ross decisioned Mattioli, Wyoming, 11-2, in the preliminaries, then went on to take the Mountain- eers’ S. Pinter 9-8 in the quarter finals but after giving West Side Tech's Kat Smith a good battle, lost to him 5-0 Saturday afternoon. Smith went on to win a District 2 title by defeating Smithey of Meyers, 12-8. The Mountaineers’ J. Wybersky lost 4-2 to Wyoming’s Simko in the preliminaries and Simkowent on to cop the title. Lehman’s E. Nixon took Scran- ton Tech’s McColligan 8-1 but was defeated by Meyers’ T. Jiunta 13-0. Knights’ spectators had hopes for a 120 1b champ disappear as D. Wagner lost his first bout to West Side Tech’s J. Tressa by a close 2-1. Siegel, wrestling 120 for theghlounts, staged a real battle ant took West Scranton’s S. Gavin 8-3. In an overtime bout he decisioned DeLuca of GAR 8-3, to advance to the semi- finals. Saturday afternoon, he wrestled aggressively but lost a good contest to Coughlin’s T. Martin 3-0 who continued in the finals and lost to Hanover’s Rother 7-2. After drawing a bye in the preliminaries, Dallas 127 1b. T. Musto lost in the quarter-finals to West Scranton’s Kobrynick 7- 5, who had defeated the Knights’ J. Haceowski earlier by 14-3. West Scranton’s Quatro took Russ Johnson 3-2 in the first bout and the Knights’ G. Nixon took his preliminary bout with West Side Tech’s Harrison 14-6, but then had to forfeit his next match due to an injured shoulder. Hanover’s T. Slavinski clamped the Mounts’ F'. Natitus in 4:25 but Slavinski lost out in the finals when West Scranton’s J. Coyne pulled the upset of the tournament by taking Slavinski in a 3:49 fall: The Scranton schools’ matmen showed great improvement and the local boys can look for trouble from them in future meets. The Mountaineers Russ Thrasher drew a bye, then went into overtime to defeat GAR’s Clocker 4-0 but fell to Meyers’ Sabatino in 3:15. This young sophomore has promise and should be back for a title another year. The Knights had no entry at 180. Lake-Lehman’s Bonning lost in the first round to Black from Wyoming Area by a 6-1 decision, but the Mounts’ Bob Spears kept the flame burning as he clamped Valley West’s Yakus in 4:20 but then lost a 1-0 bout when he left Meyers’ Lauer escape in the last seconds of the second bout Friday night. Crestwood’s M. Zane, however, left no doubt in the minds of the spectators as he performed beautifully throughout the whole tournament and walked away with the title by the route of two falls and an 8-1 decision. As predicted earlier, there were many surprises throughout the whole tourna- ment and some excellent performances turned in by the young wrestlers. Many of the local matmen are sophomore or juniors and will be back again next year when they hope to prove a year’s experience brings results. The Mountaineers placed fourth and the Lake-Lehman Knights had a three-way tie for ninth in the team scoring which was led by Meyers. Longmore, Puchalsky, Thrasher, and Spears will be back next year and look like real comers to cop a title for Coach Jim Bamrick. Siegel, Pinter, Konnick, Wybersky, Musto, Johnson, Kaschenbach, are also young wrestlers and have the ability to be in there giving trouble next season. Puchalsky of Dallas has Grove in a predicament which seconds later turned into a nearfall. The 133 pound bout was a lopsided win for Dallas, 10-4. Ross, Lake-Lehman’s 95 pounder, has control of Smith of West Side Tech. Smith eventually escaped and won the 5-0 decision in the semi-finals.
