‘Page 12 Ruggles Family Presents Sem With Scoreboard The memory of the late John Gould Ruggles Sr. of Dallas was honored last week when 'the John G. Ruggles Sr. Memorial Scoreboard was dedicated in Wyoming Seminary’s gym- nasium. Dedication ceremonies took place between the j.v. and varsity cage contests between Sem and Dallas. The late, prominent local businessman was a 1930 graduate of Wyoming Seminary and served on the school’s Board of Trustees from 1953 until his death in 1970. His “father, the late Harry Ruggles, was a graduate of the school (class of '98) and had served on the Board from 1928-1952. Mrs. John G. Ruggles Sr. and sons John G. Ruggles, Jr. and Frederick C., and Richard C. were on hand to officially present the scoreboard to the school as a gift of the Ruggles family and friends. All three - sons are graduates of Wyoming Seminary. Wyoming Seminary’s president, Dr. Wallace F. Stettler, and Marv Antinnes, director of athletics, accepted the scoreboard on behalf of the student body, faculty and trustees: Vandals Destroy Church Windows Vandal (s) ‘ruined two stained-glass windows Thur- sday night in Our Lady of Victory Church at Harveys Lake. Police Chief Walbridge Leinthal reported that rocks the size of a man’s fist were thrown through the two win- dows on the Second Street side of the church. One window was a plain one of leaded glass; the other depicted a scene with Christ. The destruction was discovered Firday morning by William Sherksnas and reported to police. It was thought the vandalism was done Thursday night— probably between 9 and 10 p.m. Painters at the church quit at 9 p.m., according to Chief Leinthal, and a heavy snow began around 10 p.m. ; The police chief stated the in- vestigation is continuing. Cpl. Corbett, State Police, Wyoming Barracks, is assisting. Due to a tightened deadline schedule, no publicity informa- tion can be accepted later than 4 p.m. Monday unless the event takes place that day or night. ‘The Rev. William C. Bispels has announced that an entirely new type weekly Lenten program of services will be introduced at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown, this year. The Lenten season will open with Ash Wednesday, Feb. 16, with the administratering of Holy Communion. Prior to Lenten season, all members of the congregation will receive a copy of Scripture Readings from the Gospel of St. John along with suggestions for daily faith and love acts for family, neighbors, and co-workers. Each Wednesday night, beginning Feb. 23 and con- tinuing for five weeks, a congregational covered dish supper will be held. At this time members will be given an op- portunity to share the results of their daily readings and daily faith ‘and love acts toward others. Following the supper meeting and ‘‘sharing’”’ time, a brief worship service will be held followed by We The Jury, a series of dramatic ‘‘Re-trials of Jesus’ presented by the College Misericordia actors. These trials will give each member an opportunity to profess, examine and re- examine his Christian faith. The trials will include a prosecutor, defending attorney and defendant - Mary. She is also accused of being sexually attracted to Jesus. Peter is accused of being a “rock,” cowardly and weak. Judas claims everybody knew the whole scheme was falling apart but that he was wise enough to get out. Caiaphas is accused of claiming Jesus was a threat to society. Nicodermus is on trial for straddling the fence. He is uncertain and waiting to follow the crowd. Persons attending the service will act as the jury. They will come up With the final verdict. The Sunday sermon series will be based on “I Am’’ sayings of Jesus as set forth in the Gospel of St. John. Holy Week will begin with a Paschal dinner Tuesday night, including the Christianized Passover meal of lamb, malzoh, wild rice, and wine. Sacrament of Holy Com- munion will be administered on Holy Thursday, a Community Service on Good Friday and there will be Holy Communion at both services on Easter Sunday. All members will be asked to place their commitment of time, talent, and treasure on the altar during Lent. Prior to the opening of the Lenten program, a Fiastnacht of fun and fellowship, based on “Laugh-in,”” will be held by Lutheran Church Women and members of the Dorcas Society. All residents of the area are invited to attend one or all of the Lenten services scheduled for St. Paul’s Church, Shavertown.
