Fifteen Christmas baskets
chock full of groceries were
delivered to families throughout
the Back Mountain community

Dallas Junior Woman's Club
| and their husbands.
| As is traditional, the baskets
contained canned goods and
staples donated by club
members as well as hams, eggs,
fresh fruit and vegetables
purchased with money from the
organization’s treasury. A new
addition to the baskets this year
were assortments of homemade
Christmas cookies baked by

club members.
Christmas gifts were also
collected and sent to Retreat
State «+ Hospital. Several club
members visited Retreat two
days during the past week to
wrap presents, trim trees and
visit with the patients. They
also served a holiday dinner and
provided entertainment for the
patients.
On Monday night, the Dallas
Woman’s Club Chorale en-
tertained Retreat State patients
with a Christmas - program
entitled ‘‘Christmas Around the

“May the meaning of Christ-
! mas be deeper, friendships
‘stronger and hopes brighter for
the New Year.” Wish I had said
that. It was the message on one
~ of the first Christmas cards we
received, and it tells so beau-
ply what we wish for our
friends, the readers of this
column. May each of you truly
{ have a Merry Christmas.
Can you think of a more ex-
citing place to Christmas shop
than in Marbella, Spain?
Unless, of course, you might
hespond a day in Tangiers, Moroc-
-co. Which is just what a number
of our neighbors did recently.
Mr. and Mrs. John Vivian and
| their children, Bonnie, Jack,
| and Joan, their niece, Ellen
| Vivian, and Mr. and Mrs. Mar-
shall Echols, all of Dallas, and
Mr. and Mrs. James Lacy,
Wilkes-Barre, and Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Bitterlin, Mountaintop,
were guests of the Marbella Hil-
ton Hotel on the southern coast
of Spain. Among the many in-
teresting shops they found,
were some which specialized in
leather goods made from real
antelope suede.

Action Committees
Formed by PTA
The Westmoreland Parent
Teachers’ Association met
recently to form PTA action
committees. President Stanley
McMinn led parents and
teachers through a series of
small group ‘‘brain storming’
sessions. Each small group
listed concerns and recom-
mendations for helping
teachers and school officials in
their work of educating
youngsters. Each small group
presented their suggestions or
concerns. Many of the same
recommendations were raised
by different groups.
Committees were formed in
several areas to make a
thorough study of situations and
offer the PTA recommenda-
tions for action. Included
among the committees were
playground, bus transportation,
ungraded classes, teacher-
volunteer aides, curriculum,
communications, and parent-
teacher conferences.
