Penn State to Exhibit
Art by Faculty Members
An art exhibit at the Wilkes-
Barre Campus of The Pennsyl-
vania State University Nov. 22
through Dec. 3 has been an
nounced by George W.
Bierly,campus director. The
exhibit is one in a series of
cultural events planned by the
university for both students and
the general public. :
The exhibit will feature
paintings of Wirth McCoy,
professor. of art, and Eleanor
Zygler, associate professor of
art, both Penn State faculty
members.
Mr. McCoy is a graduate of
The University of Minnesota,
University of Iowa and
Academie de la Grande
Chaumiere in Paris. He has also.
studied at the California School
of Fine Arts in San Francisco,
and with painters Yasuo
Kuniggki, Mark Rothko and
othe
Prior to his position with Penn
State, Mr. McCoy taught for
five years at Oregon State
University and then, for 11
yedrs was artist in residence
and director of the Washington
State University Art Center in
Spokane. He has been head of
the Department of Art at Penn
State for the past seven years.
His exhibit will represent the
various directions he has
pursued in the last 10 years
including both pictorial and
abstract paintings. His most
recent work represents his sab-
batical leave in Guatemala and
Mexico where he painted the
picturesque village of San
Miguel d’'Allende. A second
recent work, ‘‘A Spot of Blue’,
completely abstract in nature,
will also be exhibited.
Miss Zygler, a member of the
faculty at Penn State,
University Park, has been in-
strumental in developing
community art classes and Art
Alliance of Central Pennsyl-
vania. She studied art at Car-
negie Mellon University, Mills
College, Yale University, and
Brandeis. She also studied with
Mr. Kunyoshi at Ohio
University, Hans Hoffman,
Provincetown, and at the In-
stitute de Belles Artes, San
Miguel, Mexico.
Miss Zygler believes artistic
endeavor must be a two way
communication encompassing

Keat’s picture book story of a
little boy’s delight when he
learns to whistle for his dog.
“Time of Wonder’’, Robert
Mc€loskey’s second Caldecott-
ord book, tells of two
children on an island in Maine
one summer, of fog lifting above
sparkling water, a storm, and
roaring winds, of ferns un-
furling in misty woods, and
boats moving about among the
islands.
Children aged three through
five are welcome.

The couple, former residents

They have four children—

The painter describes her
work as being lyrical, poetic,
and close to nature.’ ‘Her
paintings make use of the
organic strength in the struc-
ture and color of nature’s form-
s. All of her paintings have been
done recently. Among them are
“Sun and Shadow,” “The Lost
Bridge,” and ““Snowbound.”
There is no charge for ad-
mission and persons interested
in oil paintings are encouraged
to attend the exhibit. It will be
open to the public daily from 9
a.m. to5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m,

Dallas Resident Assisting
In Seminar at Misericordia
Richard Dower of Carr
Avenue, Dallas, will assist in
conducting the liturgical music
seminar currently being pre-
sented by College Misericordia
for choir masters and organists
in the Scranton Diocese, it was
announced by Sister Mary
Carmel MecGarigle, RSM,
seminar director.
Mr. Dower will lecture on
basic hymn playing, basic
anthem accompaniment, and
suggestions for preludes and
offertories. Depending upon the
instruments played by the
people attending, Mr. Dower
will extend his lecture to include
electronic instruments. He will
also demonstrate techniques.
Mr. Dower is an assistant
professor of music at College
Misericordia and music
director of the First Baptist

Area Students Attend
Penn State Career Day
Two Lake-Lehman high
school seniors were among the
150 students from 15 area-wide
high schools attending the
recent Career Day at Wilkes-
Barre Campus of The Pennsyl-
“ vania State University.
The program, sponsored by
members of Circle K. Club, was
for the purpose of helping high
school seniors become familiar
with various courses offered by
the local campus and opportun-
ities available in related fields.
The students were welcomed
by John R. Murphy, dean of
student affairs, and received in-
formation on registration and
educational programs from
both Dean Murphy and Coun-
selor Robert Sabatino.
Following lunch hosted by
Circle K members, the seniors
visited various facilities and de-
partments with club members
acting as guides. The seniors
also sat in during class periods
of their choosing and met with
campus department heads.

The College Misericordia
liturgical seminar is conducted
at the college every Thursday
evening at 7:30 and is open to all
members of the Diocese. The
seminars will continue through
December.
Film on Dances to Be Shown at Misericordia
College Misericordia’s Cul-
tural Events Committee will
present ‘‘Plisetskaya Dances”,
the third and final film in this
semester’s film series, at 7:30,
Dec. 8, according to committee
chairman, Sister Marie Dolores
Moore, RSM.
The film will be presented in
Walsh Auditorium on campus
and will be open to the public at
no charge.
Winner of numerous interna-
tional cinema awards, ‘‘Pliset-
skaya Dances” is a study of
Maya Plisetskaya, prima bal-
lerina of the Bolshoi Ballet. In-
cluded in the film are dance se-
quences from ‘“‘Sleeping
Beauty’, ‘“‘Swan Lake,” and
“Don Quixote’.
The film will be introduced at
College Misericordia by Jenette
Lancos, dance instructor at the
college. Miss Lancos will lead a
brief panel discussion on the
film prior to its showing.

Meeting in Atlanta
Dr. and Mrs.
Krashnak Jr., chiropractor at
Edwardsville and Plymouth,
recently returned from a trip to
Atlanta, Ga., where they at-
