Booker Jr. Two Back Mountain residents were elected to positions with the Wilkes-Barre branch of the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind at its recent annual - meeting in Wilkes-Barre. Fletcher C. Booker Jr., Machell Ave., Dallas, was elected president of the blind prevention agency which has been serving the visually handi- capped of this area for more than 60 years. Mrs. Richard Maslow, Sutton Road, Shaver- town, was newly elected as a member of the board of directors. Mr. Booker is vice president of Booker Brothers Inc., Wilkes- Barre. He is a veteran military officer and is presently with the 28th Infantry Dividison Ar- tillery. He is also a director of Wyoming Valley Chapter, American Red Cross and past president of Penn’s Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. Maslow, formerly fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, moved to this area from Scarsdale, N.Y. in 1958. Her community activities have included volunteer work with the Back Mountain Library and Girl Scouts, Wyoming Valley United Fund, and Wyoming Historical and Geological Society. She is also a director of the Junior League. Mrs. Maslow is listed in the Who’s Who in American Women. Other area residents serving on the board are Eugene J. Con- sidine, Trucksville, Mrs. Donald E. Townend Gets Guard Promotion The promotion of Frank Townend, Trucksville, to the rank of Major General on the state retired list of the Pennsyl- vania Army National Guard was announced this week. Mr. Townend was formerly assistant division commander of the National Guard’s 56th Brigade. Promotion in rank came after Mr. Townend completed more than 25 years of ‘“‘creditable and honorable service” with the Na- tional Guard and the Army, in- cluding active service during World War II and the Korean War. An attorney, Mr. Townend is associated with the law firm of James, Harris, Silverblatt & Townend. He serves as solicitor for Dallas Township.
