PAGE TEN Gate of Heaven acquires Dallas home for convent Gate of Heaven Church has purchased the former Asa Day home situated on Terrace Drive, Dallas, to use as a con- vent for the nuns who teach in the nearby parish school. The purchase has received the ap- proval of Bishop McCormick, head of the Scranton Diocese, and of Mother William Joseph, provincial of the Mercy Order. Msgr. Francis A. Kane, pas- tor of the church, stated that some renovations will be neces- Dallas Boy Scouts entertain parents The Flying Eagle Patrol, with Scott Slocum as leader, opened the meeting of Boy Scout Troop 281 at Parents’ Night recently at the Dallas United Methodist Church. John Juris, scoutmaster, commended the troop for its performance at the recent ' Camporall in Lehman. The boys placed fourth out of 63 troops in overall points and won a bugle for being the most active group. * The Dallas troop also partici- pated in the Memorial Day par-. ade in Dallas. The scouts and their parents were briefed on plans for the troop's trip to Acahela in July. David Dombeck received his second class badge and Cliff Kozemchak was awarded the bronze Eagle Palm. sary in order to make the home suitable to house the nine nuns on the school faculty. The sis- ters have been living at College Misericordia since 1951 when Gate of Heaven School opened. According to Msgr. Kane, a chapel and a community room will be located on the first floor of the convent as well as a kitchen and dining room. Separate living quarters will be provided for each of the nine nuns by using the five rooms on the second level of the house and connecting them with the upper level of the garage where renovations will provide four more rooms. It is hoped that the work will be completed and the convent ready for occupancy by Sep- tember when the school reopens for the fall term. Ham ‘n Yeggs signing up Now The traditional Ham n’ Yeggs Club which actively supports the Library Auction has signed up its first three members for 1970, Mrs. T. M. B. Hicks, Mrs. Howard Risley and Bill Moss. Mr. Moss says that the letters for renewal of membership will soon be on their way to the loyal supporters of the auction. Any resident wishing to contribute need not wait for a letter just mail a check payable to the Back Mountain Memorial One thing, and there are others, I find harder to do with my joints and bones and meat, and that is to get myself into small spaces and out again without getting all lamed up. What happened was, that I had some repair work to do on the * well pump, for instance, I had to change the oil, and repack the piston rod packing. I'm just not made of rubber or putty! And another thing that is awkward is to get out of my car and stand right up. The older cars were higher from the ground and when I put my feet out and down on the ground about all I had to do then was stand up! With the ‘now’ car when and if I get my feet out and down I still have to do the equivalent of getting out of a ‘low chair. What I need is a grab- bar out in space to pull myself up with in order to stand. Feet and head both have to be bent and folded into and out of the modern car. Guess I'm not much of a fold-up man! This whole Mount Zion from its top to the valley floor was bowed and heavily clouded with grief. The news got around that Richie Dymond, the 16-year old son of Dick and Janet Dymond, had somehow been tumbled off the tractor he was driving and the tractor ran over him and crushed his life out. You could feel that gloom in church Sunday; you could sense it among the school people. People who were supposed to say words of comfort found their tongues stuck in their throats. Yet this family was so highly respected and deeply loved that everybody longed to wipe away the pain of loss and make the whole thing just not have happened! pos. traction. x u 5 i x 5 i k1 S £0 M y yoanmer Talks by The Rev. Looks nice, if I do say so who helped put it up. The next project will be to cover the walls with muslin which Cathy had dyed a comfortable blue. When she gets to it (and this is definitely her department!) she will measure and cut and then staple the lengths to the wall. The final finish will be the nailing up of some cove mold- ings which is easy to do until it comes to making the corners match. I don’t think too hard about that part of the job! In the course of using a great deal of hot water for the dyeing process and also some regular washings we discovered the water heater was giving out. It was hard for me to realize we had been using this for ten years, and now the heaters are more modern and give hotter water with quicker recovery. So that change was made and we are in hot water! How can I write about this im- portant business of our annual conference session? This year I plan to attend more of the ses- sions than I have done the last two years. Catherine will go with me to many of them. Why am I writing about what we are going to do, when by next week it will already have been done. The conference will have met, will have gone over many plans, will have used up more rhetoric than the Republicans and Dem- ocrats all put together. Great issues will have been decided and by this time all the world will know what we Methodists (United or Divided!) have voted up or down. Come on, Tuffy, let’s you and I take a walk!
