The Dallas Mountaineers wound up the season undefeated with a 14-0 record. The champs took off in the first period with a 24-13 lead and then dumped in 28 more to make it 52-35 at halftime. The Mountaineers came back strong in the third period, scoring 29 to Lake-Lehman’s 19 with Scott Lefko ripping the cords for 14 points. Dallas was leading at the end of the third period, 81-54. The Knights scored 26 points in the final stanza -while the Mountaineers had their slowest quarter ‘of the night with 21. Bill Spencer cops title for Knights by DALE SPONSELLER The Hanover Hawkeyes of Coach John Carr captured the team trophy by racking up a record 108 points at the annual District 2 Wrestling Tourna- ment. A crowd of 3000 looked on as Hanover emerged with five district champions. Spencer lead throughout the entire match as he bacame the Knights’ lone winner. These two boys battled to a 5-5 draw during the season. Lake-Lehman in that order. The highlight of the tourney for the Mountaineers came in the 91 pound final bout when sophomore Bruce Griffiths of Dallas captured the crown with a 3-2 decision over Pat Smith of West Side Tech. Griffiths pinned his quarter final oppo- nent in the first period and easily decisioned his foe in the semi-finals, 9-2, on his way to the championship. Dallas’ last District 2 championship was won in 1967 when Carl Zimmer- man turned the trick in the 165 pound class. Griffiths is now looking forward to the Northeastern Regional Wres- tling Tournament at Muhlen- burg College March 7. The 91 pound class is con- sidered exhibition and no team points are awarded. Ron Du- kinas was therefore the high- est point getter for the Moun- taineers.” Dukinas was deci- sioned 7-0 in the finals by Dave Podolsky of Wyoming Valley West.
